Tom Renney started with lines more reminiscent of those that finished the game against the Senators, but after finishing the first period at 1-1 he shifted things around once more, putting the team pretty much back together as it has been for much of the season.  The defense however remained an odd assortment, including a pairing that featured Aaron Ward and Marek Malik together.

The Rangers did score first on a rebound shot by Michael Nylander, but as has happened so many times this season gave the opportunity right back to the Bruins on a fluky goal less than a minute later.  They dominated the play for much of the second period, but still managed just one goal on 21 shots, another rebound goal, this time by Martin Straka on what turned out to be the game winner.

Jed Ortmeyer sealed in the third with an unexpected Penalty Shot Goal while the team was skating short-handed, and that perhaps was the highlight of the game.

TURNING POINT:
Jed Ortmeyer is hauled down killing off a penalty on Thomas Pock for high sticking late in the third.  Awarded a penalty shot, Ortmeyer outwaits Thomas, drawing him down with the fake and flips the puck by him for a short-handed goal, his first goal of the season.

GAME NOTES:
Marcel Hossa now has a two game point scoring streak with a goal and an assist in the last two games.  Colton Orr returned to the line-up after serving his 5 game suspension.  Adam Hall was scratched for the first time this year, as was Jason Ward, who did miss an earlier game with an injury.

Jed Ortmeyer scored his first NHL Penalty Shot Goal on his first attempt.  He now has three points in the last two games, and is just four short of his season total last year when he managed just seven points in 78 games.  Jason Krog made his Rangers debut and won 5 of the 6 faceoffs he took...ironically he lost the most important one, a 5 on 3 face-off in the Boston zone.

Karel Rachunek lead all Rangers with 21:41 of ice time, one second more than Jaromir Jagr and more than a minute more than any other defenseman.

The Rangers have now won five straight against the Bruins, third straight against Boston at MSG.

WHO STOOD OUT:
Michael Nylander looked better than his previous outing early in the game, Martin Straka, Marcel Hossa, Jed Ortmeyer and Blair Betts also skated hard and were key players in a better forechecking effort.  Henrik Lundqvist didn't have to make any highlight reel saves, but was beaten only by a fluky deflection in the first.

WHO DIDN'T:
Petr Prucha was quiet even when given the first period opportunity of playing with Straka and Jagr...Marek Malik and Aaron Ward don't seem like a good match and Thomas Pock continues to struggle at times with his coverage and took another late penalty that could have had serious consequences (also gave up the penalty that allowed the Devils to gain a point earlier in the season).
