Things couldn't have gotten off to much of a better start for the Rangers in their only match up with the Red Wings this season.  Brendan Shanahan and Michael Nylander scored 13 seconds apart to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead less that three minutes into the game.  Even when the Red Wings eventually scored, it was not a problem, with Marcel Hossa responding with a power play goal giving the Rangers a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.

The second period was a stalemate, but it was the third period when things quickly went down hill for the home team.  The collapse started when Henrik Lundqvist turned over the puck behind his own net and allowed Jiri Hudler to scoop the puck into an empty net with the Rangers netminder still struggling to return to the crease.  He then compounded the issue when he was unable to stop a simple shot from out towards the boards allowing Robert Lang to tap it between his legs to tie the game.  Munutes later and the Red Wings completed the comeback on the power play, again going 5-hole on the Rangers netminder.

The loss leaves the Rangers mired in 11th spot, 5 points out of a playoff spot and 3 points behind the 10th placed Islanders.

TURNING POINT:
With the Rangers up 3-1 in the third, Henrik Lundqvist turns the puck over behind the net and doesn't get back into the crease quick enough, allowing the Red Wings to pull within one.  Lundqvist then proceeds to let in two more goals he should have stopped, allowing the Red Wings to complete the comeback.

GAME NOTES:
With Jason Ward flying out to join the Kings, Adam Hall returned to the line-up, only to see the Red Wings score on his first shift on the ice.  Sean Avery was acquired only hours before the game and was officially a "healthy scratch", though the team hopes he'll join them for tomorrow night's game against the Devils.

Brendan Shanahan scored his first even strength goal in 23 games, and the first even strength goal against a goalie in 25.  The streak goes back to December 3rd.

Marcel Hossa scored his first power play goal of the season, and just the third goal of the year.

WHO STOOD OUT:
The re-united line of Shanahan, Cullen and Prucha had a fairly good game, and Fedor Tyutin played solidly in his own end.

WHO DIDN'T:
It was a classic collapse, and for the most part it was on the shoulders of Henrik Lundqvist.  The sophomore netminder was not sharp on any of the third period goals, and almost single handedly was responsible for the Red Wings turnaround.
