Elkman it is believed is watching to see what the Rangers do before making his decision. With the Donato signing with the Bruins and Lyashenko's death his chance to make the Rangers has improved a lot.
The danger though is that IF he does return to Europe it will be another hit to the Ranger rep among their European prospects as previous Euros like Sundin, Lindblom and Richter went back to Europe all saying they never got a real chance to make the Rangers.
LaBarbara is also reportedly looking at Europe as well now that Danny is just about a sure thing for Hartford as well.
I disagree with you that the roster as is can be a winner. They remain very weak defensively among the forwards and with the roster as is then the PK will have guys like Kovalev and Bure manning it. That would be a death wish
