I'll begin by saying that I agree with you on Anson Carter. I think the guy looks like a fish out of water, and I can't really see him making a serious contribution. I'd like to see him traded while he is still an asset. I would love to get someone like Demitra (young sniper), but that seems highly unlikely. Taking the realistic approach, I'd like to see the Rangers trade Carter for a draft pick or a good young prospect. I don't think that's unreasonable.
I don't quite agree about the forward lines or defensice pairings you suggest. I don't like the idea of lundmark playing with holik. I think Lundmark has offensive potential, and I would like to see a young 4th line with Moore(whom I also believe is a potential second line forward) and possibly Stals or Murray. I'd like to see Scott on Holik's flank, with Murray on the other. This, I realize, will never happen.
As for the defensive pairings... Bobo played well with Tjutin, and assuming that Tjutin plays physical, it might inspire Mironov to do the same. Lampman was paired with Kaspar for a few preseason games and I was quite impressed with him, he appeared to steady Kaspar, similar to the effect of Cross, although less physical.
I HATE Purinton with a passion and I'm not fond of Malakhov either. The defense is too slow, and in many cases (Malakhov, Leetch, Bobo) too fragile. Youth is needed, badly.
So why go with inexperienced kids? Well, let's face it, if we make the playoffs, we won't win the cup. There's no way, not with teams like the Avalanche and the Red Wings out there. So get the kids some experience for next year, this way once the CBA expires we can start the new season with a system and (hopefully) a balanced mix of veterans and youth.
