RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

What Would Glen Do?

Let The Games BEGIN!!!!! 2012

The Rangers are ready for business starting free agency on July 1st.  Since the Rangers were knocked out of the playoffs, they have held their player exit interviews, organizational meetings, some organizational singings, and the draft. The Rangers are going into this years  free agency well prepared and knowing what is needed to make the N.Y. Rangers an Elite NHL team and Cup favorite. President/General Manager/Alternate Governor Glen Sather likes where the organization is and along with the rest of the Rangers executives have their plan in hand and will not sell off the future for one shot at the title.

Where the fine line is, the Rangers have too many players to sign/have signed for the 50 NHL contracts allowed under the current CBA. It helps that all 4 of this years drafts are going to college or going to play overseas along with last years pick Steven Fogarty going to attend the University of Notre Dame delays them having to be signed to contracts.

The Rangers have addressed their internal signings to their wants. It seems as if Brandon Prust might be pricing himself out of New York as the Rangers can probably sign a player to play of the fourth line and play strong like a Zenon Kenopka that would actually help in the faceoff cirlce as well.  Sather has already re-signed Marty Biron for 2 years at $1.3 mil per (a well deserved raise from the $875,000 from his last contract). Prospect signings have been Mike Vernace(came from Floroda with a 2013 3rd round pick for Wolski) for 1 year at $525,000, Marek Hrivik(signed from the QMJHL as a free agent) to an ELC  3years at cap hit of $685,000 per ; Jesper Fasth/Fast ELC 3years at $805,000 cap hit per ; Oscar Lindberg(came from Pheonix for Ethan Werek) ELC 3years at $675,000 cap hit per).  The Rangers have also tendered Restricted Free Agents Michael Del Zotto, Mats Zuccarello, and Anton Stralman. It has been reported that Zucc has already signed with a KHL team and that Stralman is thinking of playing closer to home in Sweden but this would retain their rights if they chose to come back to the NHL. The Rangers are hoping to get DZ to sign for 2 years at close to $2.2 mil per.

The Rangers felt that this wasn't a deep draft and that most of the players were projects. The Rangers have a very deep prospect pool which allowed them to draft players that are clear projects and will be playing college and in the Swedish league to take their games to a level that could see them in the NHL in a few year. The Rangers drafted two players from the USA Developmental team with their first two picks, defenseman Brady Skjei and center Christoval Nieves, while grabbing two players who will play in the Swedish Elite league in defenseman Calle Anderson(2nd generation Ranger) and right wing Thomas Spelling. The Rangers have already had their Developmental Camp last week and Andrew Gross reported that the players seemed fast and stronger than years past. The only notable thing that happened was that Dylan McIlrath went for a big hit on a camp invitee Kyle Jean and the hit went knee on knee causing McIlrath to have to get the knee checked out later this coming week.

WWGD?(What Will Glen Do?)  Sather has shown a very good ability in making trades while his free agent signings in the past haven't been the best although the last two big names have been good and fair signings in Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards.  The Rangers are at a point where they will have to make a trade of a few prospects and maybe one or two roster players for a game changing star for two reasons, the Rangers need a star scorer and the Rangers have too many players in the system. You know Sather would rather get something for them than to just let them sign somewhere else and recieve nothing for them. Since all the Staal's want to play together, why don't the Rangers offer Marc Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes for Jeff Skinner(add players to make it work). The Rangers are ALL IN and a finalist in the Justin Schultz sweepstakes. Michael Sauer isn't expected back to the earliest midseason but the Rangers defense is solid and could even add Tim Erixon or Dylan McIlrath this season(as long as it wasn't a bad injury). DO they resign Bickel? Does Sather pull the string and make a trade for Nash or Bobby Ryan? The next few days will be fun to watch!!  LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
