RUMOR MILL

Wednesday - June 26th

Elliot Friedmman of Sportsnet, reports that the Avalanche weren't willing to include the 16th overall pick to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kreider.

Wonder who else wasn't willing to include a first rounder for him. Part of the problem of course is his UFA status next year, and then the expansion draft after that.

Sanguinetti was traded for picks.

What Happened To Bobby S.?
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 2:35:19 PM - August 27, 2012

When Jersey born Bobby Sanguinetti was picked by the New York Rangers, he seemed like he would get a chance to play on Broadway and things would fit perfectly. He has the size and skillset. In his 2 seasons in Hartford, he had 15 goals 65 assists for 80 points and even had a cup of coffee with the big club playing 5 games while not recording any points, but had 4 penalty minutes.  For some reason during the 2010 draft, the Rangers dealt him to the Carolina Hurricanes for the 157th pick and a #2 pick in the 2011 that was acquired from Washington.

The Rangers used the 2010 pick to obtain Jesper Fast, who Hockey's Future sees to be a top notch prospect with speed from Sweden, and the Rangers felt was worth the loss of Sanguinetti with the depth the Rangers have on defense.

The deal that the Rangers sent out to Calgary was Rangers prospect Roman Horak and 2 #2 picks( the Rangers own #2 pick and the pick from Carolina that they had recieved from Washington in a prior deal) for Erixon and a pick.  The  pick the Rangers recieved from Carolina for the 2011 draft was used to be part of the deal sent to Calgary to get Tim Erixon and Calgary's #134th pick that turned into Shane McColgan (another small player like Jesper Fast with a lot of speed and great skillset).

The biggest part of the Bobby Sanguinetti connection is, that the now Rangers prospect Tim Erixon, by reports from all involved, was that once the Rangers added Tim Erixon was added to the offer of Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, and a #1 pick- it sealed the deal for the Rick Nash trade. So of course other parts were added, but it would turn out that Glen Sather somehow turned Bobby Sanguinetti into Jesper Fast, Shane McColgan, and adding a chip to be used as part of the Rick Nash trade. Nice work for the Hall of Fame General Manager of the New York Rangers.

It is amazing when you connect all the dots at how many things are involved in all trades/signings. The General Managers sometimes have to move amny pieces in order to make what looks like an easy trade as if one of the prior deals don't happen, most likely the final piece of the puzzle may never be found.
