► RUMOR MILL
|
Thursday - March 25th
With 18 days remaining until the NHL trade deadline, all is relatively quiet on the Rangers front.
Not unexpectedly, the Rangers are probably going to be minor players this time round, without much in the way of short term assets they would be looking to part with.
Clearly they would look at offers for those on short term or expiring contracts like Brendan Smith, Ryan Strome, Jack Johnson and perhaps the likes of Colin Blackwell.

Brendan Shanahan played two seasons with the Rangers
|
|
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ 4:23:50 PM - July 9, 2013
Neither Fred Shero nor Brendan Shanahan will be known primarily for their Ranger careers, but they did each have stints with the Blueshirts. For Fred Shero, he'll be known primarily for the two Cup winning years he had in Philadelphia, but following his tenure in Philadelphia, he coached the Rangers for just over two seasons from the 1978-79 through to 1980-81 seasons.
Shero got the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals in his first season, but saw them go down 4-1 to a strong Montreal Canadiens team. In his 2+ seasons, he finished with a 82-74-24 record, the 11th best winning percentage amongst Ranger coaches. His 15-12 record in post-season play, is still good enough for third amongst Rangers coaches, trailing just Mike Keenan and Lynn Patrick.
Brendan Shanahan came to the Rangers late in his career, and played two seasons for New York, appearing in 140 regular season games and 20 post season games. Shanahan stands 126th all time on the Rangers points list, with 108. He also stands as the leader or shared leader in shootout goals - 5, shootout attempts - 15 and shootout game winners - 4.
