RUMOR MILL

Wednesday - June 26th

Elliot Friedmman of Sportsnet, reports that the Avalanche weren't willing to include the 16th overall pick to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kreider.

Wonder who else wasn't willing to include a first rounder for him. Part of the problem of course is his UFA status next year, and then the expansion draft after that.

Rangers Should Limp Into Christmas Break
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 1:32:46 PM - December 20, 2015

The Rangers have been playing horrific hockey the last few weeks and no change in play seems to be expected to be the same for the next little while. The Rangers have just tweeted that Kevin Klein will not play in Saturdays game versus the Capitals and it would seem smart to keep him out of Tuesdays last game before the Christmas break and stay out of game play until the 28th of December against the Nashville Predators to make sure he is back to 100%. The Rangers are in such a funk that it would seem that nothing will change mentally until the team gets back together after the holiday.

It was reported by the Rangers site that Chris Drury was overseas scouting Pavel Buchnevich and getting a feel of if he would be able to come over to the Rangers and the NHL once his KHL Severstral team's season ended as they are in last place and their season whould end at the end of February. Nothing was reported after that but it would seem pretty clear now that any hope of ading Buchnevich this season is over as he was traded today to the SKA team which sits in a playoff spot at this time. This team is coached by Sergei Zubov and one of the goalies is fellow Ranger prospect Igor Shesterkin. Also on this team of note is Ilya Kovulchuk and Steven Moses who was a Ranger camp invite a few years back that lead the KHL in scoring last season but couldn't stick in the NHL. The Russian Federation had the chance to block him coming over to the NHL this season by making him play for the Rusian national team during the World's at the end of the NHL season, so it would seem that that was the Russian plan. It would seem that the Rangers may have had a little influence in getting him on a team that he could play with better players and get some playoff experience instead of playing on a bottom dwelling team since they weren't going to have him for this season anyway. If you remember a few years back, then General Manager Glen Sather went to Russia and had some sort of agreement going on with KHL President Medvedev when Cherapanev playing with Jagr when he suddenly died on the bench from a heart ailment that had peviously gone undetected. It would seem that the Rangers are ready to go with what they have in the system this season whether for good or bad.

This Rangers team has been made from their amatuer and professional scouts doing a great job. The "new NHL" has made good scouting a key to an NHL team's success. The Rangers had always been a team that used it's picks to get veteran players and when they got a chance to get a very good player, they would take a player that fit the need now, instead of what they would need in the future. One of the best moves Glen Sather made was stealing Gordie Clarke from the Islanders and Jeff Gorton from the Boston Bruins. Those two have done a great job of making the Rangers a top team in the NHL for the last few years. 9 Players that are on this Rangers team are Henrik Lundqvist, Derek Stepan, Chris Kreider, Marc Staal, J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast, Dylan McIlrath, Brady Skjei, and from yesteryear Dominic Moore. Players that were scouted and told to the General Manager to sign as free agents right out of amayuer play are Dan Girardi, Mats Zuccarello, and Kevin Hayes. Players that were traded for that had not made their NHL debut were Ryan McDonagh and Oscar Lindberg. That is 14 of the Rangers core players. Other picks and ex-draft choices like Anthony Duclair, Brandon Dubinsky, Atrem Anisimov, Carl Hagelin, and Michael Del Zotto were traded away for Rick Nash, Kevin Klein, Keith Yandle, and Emerson EtemDerick Brassard is the only real core player that no draft choice had anything to do with, it was a Sather trade giving Marion Gaborik to Columbus. The rest of the players were free agent signings that Sather wasn't really too good at.

This seasons Rangers clearly are different from the Rangers of the last few seasons. There seems to be no urgency and we all finally saw some reaction when Zucc's slammed his stick against the garbage can showing fustration. That is the same fustration most Rnagers fans have been feeling so far this season. The Rangers have been bad all season, but in the start of the season the goalies were able to play amazing to cover up the bad play. These Rangers have a long way to go to becoming a playoff level team that can make a long run into June. Even though it seems that the sky is falling, this team sits in a playoff spot by around 4 games and should slide in at around the 7th or 8th spot unless there is a change made. January will be a HUGE month in what this years version of where the Rangers will wind up at season end. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!
