The N.Y. Rangers G.M. Gorton have started to shake things up. The Rangers have put Adam Craknell on waivers after he was picked up off of waivers around 2 weeks ago, as he was clearly not the answer. The Rangers have also sent Tony DeAngelo to Hartford to get regular minutes while improving his game. Ranger G.M.'s have made some major moves for coach Vigneault in the last few years in keeping within the Cap, by bringing in big name talent like Eric Staal and Keith Yandle to only have Vigneault not put them in the position to succeed and for them to only be rentals instead of future pieces to a Rangers core because of their failure to make the Rangers better. The one trade that G.M. Gorton has made for the future core is Brassard for Mika Zibenajed and a 2nd round pick that was added to a 3rd round Rangers pick to bring in Brendan Smith.
Guys that Gorton has had to move for either cap reasons or the organization felt no longer fit have been Carl Hagelin, Cam Talbot, Keith Yandle, Derrick Stepan, Antii Raanta, and Matt Puempel (who was also a waiver pick up last season). The Rangers future is being built with the assets brought in from those moves. Hagelin made room to keep Krieder and got only Jensen(playing in the KHL) and this years 6th rounder Dominik Lakatos(who is playing in the Chek league). Talbot, who deserved an opportunity to be a starter was turned into prospects Ryan Gropp, Adam Huska, Sergey Ziborovskiy. Brassard became Zibinajed and Brendan Smith. Keith Yandle became prospects Tyler Wall, Brendan Crawley, Morgan Barron. Stepan and Raanta was turned into Tony DeAngelo, #7 pick Andersson and caproom for Shattenkirk. The lastest trade this week is the one that is a key to knowing that bigger changes are coming.... Matt Puempel was sent to Detroit for another defenseman Ryan Sproul. Reading between the lines, the Rangers are about to make a bigger trade as a defenseman wasn't needed in HArtford or in N.Y. where 8 were already on the roster.
So today the Rangers sent Tony DeAngelo to Hartford leaving 7 NHL defensemen. The Rangers also put Adam Cracknell on waivers leaving 12 NHL forwards although the Rangers coach only dresses 11 for 1/2 the season. The Rangers are currently 2-6-2 and struggling in every aspect. It looks as if the players have stopped listening to the coach. The team comes out of the locker room not ready to give what it takes to be successful. Nobody on the team has given 100% in a full game so far this season. This team is totally out of sinc. The Rangers traded their #1 center and have nothing on the roster at this time to show for it except fpr the cap room that allowed the Rangers to sign Kevin Shattenkirk.
Going back to last season, the Rangers scouts were at the L.A. Kings (NHL and AHL) and Colorado Avalanche games the most. From the Kings, I would love for the Rangers to go after Adrian Kempe and from Colorado either Matt Duchene (to replace Stepan) or hopefully Nathan McKinnon. Ay of these players woud be a huge fix to the Rangers forwards. McKinnon would most likely cost a top 4 dman, a top 6 forward, a top prospect, and at least a #2 pick. MAtt Duchene along with McKinnon would fix the center spot on the 1st line the Rangers need. If the Rangers fo the Kempe route, J.T. Miller could slide into the middle as the 3rd line center and the forwards would fall into place.
The biggest question is will Vigneault use the player that the Rangers trade for in the spot he is traded for, although he has shown in the past he isn't on the same page as the Rangers G.M. So either the G.M. makes the trade to fix this team and the coach uses the player correctly this time, or it's time for a coaching change at the Garden.
The Rangers have recalled Boo Nieves from the Wolfpack!! Luckily just in time for Hallowen! BOOOOOOOOOOOO
Let's Go Rangers!!!
