RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 2nd

Frank Seravalli The Daily Faceoff put together a list of the top 15 trade targets as we close out the second month. Amongst the list is former Ranger J.T. Miller, whom is among several Canucks players that might become available given their start to the season.

There's a lot working against this one though, especially with the Rangers now talking to Strome about an extension. While Miller can also play wing as well as center, the challenge will likely be trying to fit the $5.25M salary into the roster for next year, not to mention what they would do after next season when he becomes a UFA.

The 28 year old forward (29 in March), certainly has done well in Vancouver, putting up nearly a point a game (141 points in 146 games), and could well want out if the Canucks decide to rebuild. Alternatively, the Canucks might want to keep much of their current team, and certainly someone who has been such a good fit there.

Center Morgan Barron has been called up for tomorrow's game

Kakko on IR. Barron up. Kravtsov in Russia
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ 7:21:13 PM - October 17, 2021

Right wing Kaapo Kakko has been placed on injury reserve following an upper body injury sustained in last night's win over the Montreal Canadiens.  Kakko appeared to injury his shoulder in a collision, and will be unavailable until at least the home game against the Calgary Flames on the 25th.

When asked about the severity of the injury, Gerard Gallant seemed unconcerned about a lengthy absence, and gave the standard 'Day to Day' categorization that appears to be the go-to for any injury at this point.

With Kakko out, the Rangers called up Morgan Barron who has a goal in each of Hartford's first two games, and was amongst the last cuts to the team out of camp.  Where Barron will play remains to be seen, but there's likely to be a number of changes to the line-up with both Kakko and Strome still out.

In other news, disgruntled right wing Vitali Kravtsov has surfaced in Russia, attending a KHL game less than a week after he fell out with Rangers management over a reassignment to the AHL.  The quick return to Russia certainly doesn't bode well for a quick return to the NHL.
