► RUMOR MILL
|
Thursday - December 5th
Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:
Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.
The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

The first thing that I noticed was the captains "C" on Drury's jersey along with the assistant captains "A" on the jersey's of Rozsival and Betts. Upon seeing the rosters of both teams it was obvious which team would have the upper hand in this game. Ottawa started off the scoring as expected with a highlight one-timer slapshot just under the crossbar and passed Valiquette. Next goal was on a Rangers powerplay when Rozsival showed alot of rust by mishandling the puck onto the stick of Jason Spezza for a (penalty shot kind of) breakaway and his skill level proved too much for Valiquette to stop. The goal that made it 3-0 Senators is one that Valiquette probably wishes he could get back because he let up a bad rebound and had his stick off the ice allowing for an easy tap in.
Although down 3-0, the Rangers were playing a very competetive game. The Drury-Dawes-Prucha line was doing everything correct except finishing(that will come). Wiikman relieved Valiquette in goal and stopped the 8 shots that he faced while Vally had let up 3 on 11 shots while the Rangers were running around early in the game. Dubinsky(who was clearly the best player on the ice last night) scored his 1st of his 2 goals on a feed from Rozsival(who settled down from a rough start) and made a great move at the Senator blueline that freed him up to roof a shot over Gerbers shoulder for a powerplay goal. After alot of power plays by both teams(Rangers were 1 for 9 while the Senators were 0 for 11 total), Dubinsky got his 2nd goal shorthanded on a great play by Callahan in the defensive zone to tie up the Senator point man that allowed Dubi to break away and shoot high stickside to close the gap to 3-2. What was noticable on the that play and throughout the game was Staal was rushing forward much more than last year.
Overall the NHL/AHL Rangers had a strong showing while stopping an NHL roster on 11 powerplays. The new system the Rangers are talking about this year seems to have the defensemen rushing forward much more as a group with the forwards as a unit of 5 which will lead to much more scoring and attempts against. THE KING will be tested with more odd man rushes. I look forward to Mondays game with our top line, top defensemen, and top goalie playing and when the Rangers pick their team for the regular season. Seems like the Rangers might be as advertised---Fast, Skilled, and Young.

*Notes from the game*
Ottawa played for the win the whole game with Spezza and Heatley each getting over 20+ minutes-----played the majority of powerplay time that still went 0-11.
Voros in an interview stated he was a lifelong Messier and Rangers fan. He also said he almost had his leg amputated due to illness and stated that he chose the Rangers for less money because coach Renney talked to him in the 1st hour of free agency about his role and he feels he can help the Rangers win the Stanley Cup.
Orr worked all summer working on his skating and seemed better balanced while staying on his skates after delivering and recieving hits throughout the game.
Coach Renney left the team to take care of things at home in Vancouver which might have lead to the sloppy start of the game for the Rangers.
Mara,Byers,Moore, and Rissmiller all need to do more to make the team this year.
A great job by the Rangers organization with giving 2008 draftee Del Zotto playing time near his hometown. His mother and Father were able to see him play his 1st game and he played over 17 minutes. Not bad for a kid that just turned 18 only 3 months ago. ********************************************************************************
To all devils fans reading, your GM FUDD really proved me wrong by getting rid of another flop defenseman he signed in Vish and bringing in ANOTHER RETREAD in Rheaume. Hope the 40% off seats bring in more bodies although your owner expects less people due to the whole "new arena thing" being over.
