RUMOR MILL

Sunday - January 10th

While the Rangers are monitoring the Pierre-Luc Dubois situation in Columbus, the cost for acquiring him would be high says Larry Brooks in theNew York Post.

He suggests it'll take someone like Kaapo Kakko, Alexis Lafreniere or K'Andre Miller...plus.

The Roster Finally Takes Shape
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ - September 26, 2008

The Rangers today have sent down most of the names that were expected, and we will see them in the near future playing on Broadway. Players that will be some of first recalls this year while getting major time in Hartford will be Sanguinetti,Anisimov,Jessiman,Parenteau,Byers,Moore,Weise,Dupont, and Jamtin. Goaltender Wiikman will go to Prague as an insurance policy against injury. Pock played himself out of an opportunity to be the 7th defenseman this year. At Pock's($667,500) price it is unlikely he will make it through waivers, so this could be the end of the line for him in a Blueshirt.

The players remaining in the Rangers NHL camp that seem to be locks on a spot are Drury(at wing now),Gomez,Zherdev,Naslund,Dubinsky,Dawes,Voros,Korpikoski,
Callahan,Orr,Betts, and Prucha. The defensemen with a lock on spots are Redden,Girardi,Rozsival,Staal,Mara, and Kalinin. In nets, The King will start around 70 games again this year. The cap number for these players as a whole stands around $52.4 million, including the $100,000 cap hit for not signing Jagr to an extension.

At forward, Fritsche($875,000),Sjostrom($840,000),and Rissmiller(1 mil) are in a battle for the last 2 spots. On defense, Fahey($500,000 and on the Rangers website roster) and Potter($542,000) both seem like a viable option as the 7th and extra player. Rozsival is still not up to game shape(as we have seen this preseason), and that might help both stay on at this time. In the nets a battle between Valiquette and Wiikman wasn't expected but both are still around and you never know what happens. Saying that Fritsche, Rissmiller,Fahey, and Valiquette round out the roster, that would leave the Rangers with a cap hit of $55.4 mil barring any cap hit from last year.

The Rangers may choose to have only 22 players on the active roster by putting Rissmiller and his $1 mil through waivers(he like Pock wouldn't make it through waivers) and/or to do the much anticipated trade of Prucha and his $1.6 mil for a high draft pick(or both). It seems like the Rangers wouldn't do the Prucha move until after Prague since the Jagr crew was a huge attraction for the Prague crowd. That would give the Rangers $3 million(with both moves) for a player that has been skating alone at the Rangers training center, Shanahan.

The Rangers need to play the finalized team on Saturday against the Devils to get some chemistry started for the trip. After reading articles from overseas papers, the Rangers' opponents are looking at these games more than just an exhibition. While the Rangers have just made most cuts and haven't played the final roster players together yet, the two teams they will face in SC Bern and Magnitogork are into their regular seasons already.

FINALLY------------LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
