RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Thanks For Your Dedication To NYR Shanny
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ - November 17, 2008

The Rangers have made a commitment to their new leadership and have really made a point of sticking to it. It seems as if Sather and Renney have thought out the situation of what the team needs and they already have the forwards on the team or have the players in Hartford or elsewhere in the system. Shanahan was a Ranger that brought professionalism and commitment to the team goal everytime he laced up his skates. He knew "OLD TIME HOCKEY". He proved it with his memorable center ice fight with Brashear when the Rangers needed a lift. He taught the younger players by taking them under his wing, on what it took to be a total professional, the finer points of the game, and how to act to the fans of the game.

Shanahan had a way of making things happen. Shanny wasn't only a "presence", but he contributed as well. In his 2 years as a Ranger in the regular season, he played in 140 of 164 games. Shanny was "Old School" with injuries. After he suffered that open ice face to helmet collision, he came back and played injured. Shanny netted 52 goals while assisting on 56 for a 108 point total. He scored 6 game winning goals while adding 25 POWERPLAY goals(Notice that Sather?). Shanny seemed to always make a presence, escpecially in the playoffs. In the 20 games played he had 6 goals, 6 assists, 3 powerplay goals, along with 2 game winners.

Shanahan's stats were only part of what he meant to the team. He kept Avery in line and Jagr happy. Shanny seems not to be an egotistical personality. Avery always lived on the edge as a Ranger, but never really crossed the line. When the Rangers decided to not bring back Shanahan(which is finally being realized) that clearly is the reason why Avery isn't in Ranger Blue. Avery is already making Stars players crazy and could cost Hull his job as GM after signig him when the Dallas players asked him not to. Jagr couldn't go through a whole season as the main target of the press and Jagr only felt comfort in a secondary leadership role(even though he wore the C).

The rumor mill has Shanahan about to sign with either the Devils or Flyers due to his wanting to stay close to his family. So while Rangers fans thank Shanahan for all he did as a Ranger and wish him well in his future, the good wishes don't count in the games that he laces up his skates against the Blueshirts. Thanks again SHANNY!!
