RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Merry Christmas To All
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ - December 20, 2008

The summer and fall of Sundin to New York rumors had everyone trying to figure out who would have to be moved due to the cap numbers. If Sundin really wanted the Rangers, he would have to take way below market value due to Sather throwing alot of money towards players that he planned as his core group; that include Lundqvist,Gomez,Drury,Rozsival, and Redden. Forget about Sundin, next year Dubinsky(RFA),Zherdev(RFA),Korpikoski(RFA),Callahan(RFA),Dawes(RFA),Betts(UFA),Mara(UFA) and Orr(UFA) are all due raises. Granted Kalinin and Prucha will save the Rangers 3.7 million by not being here. So, Sather actually used his head on this one and didn't get rid of one of his "core" type players(even though unloading one of the two overpaid defensemen would have made us all happy) for a rental player like he has done many times before. Sundin would make any team better, but the Rangers would have weakened their team someplace else due to having to dump one of the "core" or younger top level players teams were asking for (Dubinsky,Zherdev,Staal,Callahan, and Girardi).

After getting beat (for a change) by the Devils, the Rangers regrouped on their trip out west and have their game again where it needs to be for it's last game, and great test against the league leading San Jose Sharks. Then they come home for a game against the Caps and Ovechkin and have Christmas at home with their families.

Santa, if your reading, Ranger fans are hoping for a physical defenseman and a powerplay specialist (Shanahan is already gift wrapped--while also being within the Rangers budget). MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
