► RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th
Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:
Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.
The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

In my preseason prediction, I predicted the Rangers in first and that is where they are at their halfway point, by a point. The King played what was probably his best game (in his 1st shutout this year) vs. the Penguins and needs to get over another bad December. Since Renney has added Prucha and Dawes together on a line with Drury,it has added another line that can score.
I had Pittsburgh as #2 as I predicted that they would suffer a letdown and leadership being a problem. I am correct about the players that moved on being better than the players that joined the team, but didn't think that the team would look so out of sync as they often do on nights.
I thought Philadelphia would be third. I thought the defense was slow and they needed better goaltending. With Hatcher and Rathje out, the younger defensemen have played well and the goalies have done well so far. They are very hot right now and will be tested on what moves will have to be made when those 2 defensemen come back.
I thought the Islanders would put it together this year with the leadership of Guerin and Weight but the injury to goalie DiPietro stalled any forward traction they seemed to be gaining. The youth movement is getting the young Isles alot of ice time which will help in the future.
My biggest mistake was the Devils. I predicted them 5th in the division. What I didn't expect was all the retreads that they signed to get injured which forced the Devils to play the younger players which was a plus for the Devils. Broduers injury has added fuel to the fire of many that have always said Broduer is a good goalie but the system is what makes his stats. With AHL and career backup Clemmensen leading a good Devils team, it seems to prove that correct.
The next month of this NHL season will seperate a very tight top 3 teams. Should be fun hockey for the rest of the season. Enjoy.
