RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Can Rangers be MADE into REAL contenders
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ - February 17, 2009

The first step would be to move Roszival to Dallas for draft picks as they need a puck moving dman to replace Zubov that they have been looking for since he went down with an injury. In return the Rangers would get possibly a #2 and #3 draft choice. This is part of an unconventional trade for Avery.

That would set up the Prucha to Pittsburgh for Ryan Whitney(25 years old and still 4 years left on contract at $4 per---lst 2 years at $5 mil per in real cash). Pittsburgh needs a scoring winger for Crosby and they feel Prucha just might be the answer. That makes you wonder why he can't crack the Rangers lineup? HHMMMMMMMM.

Well, here comes the BLOCKBUSTER everyone has been waiting for. The Rangers would give up Staal(who will be paid over $4 mil to keep in 2 years), Dubinsky(who has 1 year of RFA then can opt for UFA IV which he will get around $3.5-$4 per)Dawes/Callahan (both RFA next year), and a #2 and #3 draft choice FOR Vincent Lecavalier(28 yers old). I know--I know!!!!! It makes sense that Tampa moves Vinny as he makes $10 million a year for the next 7 years and the next 4 for lesser amounts at a CAP HIT of 7.727 per(Tampa seems to be having financial problems). The Rangers would have to fill the holes left with Hartford players and hope they are as ready as they are supposed to be. This situation would also fit under this years cap with the prorated numbers for what is left in this season. The offseason will hopefully lead to a BUYOUT of the bad contract of Redden.

If the PERFECT STORM falls into place, the revamped Rangers could look like:

Naslund--Lecavalier--Zherdev
Drury-----Gomez------Avery
Korpokoski-Anisimov--Callahan/Dawes
Sjoestrom-----Betts-----Orr

Redden--Whitney
Girardi--Kalinin
Reitz---Potter Mara(injured) Possible 7th--Sanguinetti--Sauer--Fahey
