RUMOR MILL

Tuesday - October 25th

Either Josh Jooris (New York Daily News) or Dylan McIlrath are likely to find themselves on waivers when Pavel Buchnevich returns from back spasms.

The team is expected to cut the roster down to 22 players, and as such one of the two will need to be either moved or sent down.

OTG Notebook: October 29
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ - October 29, 2008

The Rangers remain at the top of the league in terms of points, but slipped down to fifth in terms of their "win percentage" after last night's games. The Wild remain the only team without a regulation loss (6-0-1), while the Sharks, Red Wings and Canadiens all have better points per game than the Rangers. Still their 1.92 goals against average is best in the league, ahead of the Wild in second with 2.00.

The Rangers' 9-2-1 record is all the more impressive when you consider that it's equal to their best start (1978-79 and 1989-90) through 12 games when they also managed 19 points at the same point in the season.

Speaking of the start, Sam Weinman has a good article in the Journal News today, breaking down his thoughts on how the Rangers accomplished this.

If you ask Arthur Staple of Newsday, then you need to look no further than Henrik Lundqvist. Newsday also highlights the differences between the Islanders and Rangers.

Even when things are going good for the team, Larry Brooks is ready to bring us back to earth with this story on what could happen next summer with the cap.

Former Ranger defenseman Ron Greschner has found himself

in court with former wife Carol Alt. The former model is contending that Greschner has shortchanged her financially.

The Charlotte Checkers won their third straight game to improve to 4-2-0 on the season. The Checkers came back from two goals down to beat the Gwinnett Gladiators in a shootout. Rangers prospect Ryan Hillier was the only player to score in the shootout, and picked up the 1st star as a result.

2008 1st round pick Michael Del Zotto has been selected to represent the OHL against the Russians this winter. In other prospect news, there's word out of Kelowna that the Rockets are awaiting news on whether the Rangers might reassign defenseman Tysen Dowzak back to the WHL. Dowzak was signed as a UFA this summer, and was recently assigned to the Checkers after one game in the AHL.
