The Rangers head down to Washington tonight to face the Capitals (7:00pm - MSG). It's the first meeting between the teams this year, but the Caps did pick up two overtime wins on their home ice last season.
For New York, it looks like Renney will continue to stick with Petr Prucha in the line-up, with Dan Fritsche a healthy scratch, and Patrick Rissmiller remaining in New York. The Capitals may be without Sergei Fedorov and Shaone Morrisonn (The called up David Sloan from the AHL).
One player who will be in the line-up will be Alexander Ovechkin. The 23 year old star has only two goals this season, after scoring 67 last year, but remains a danger man for New York. He scored three goals against the Blueshirts last season, and Renney hope to be able to keep him to the outside tonight.
For the Rangers, Aaron Voros awoke from a stretch of so-so games with an agitating performance against the Lightning, getting under the skin of Tampa goalie Mike Smith. The Lightning for their part are trying to put the game behind them.
The game against the Lightning was as close to a complete game that the Rangers have played this year, but the team is still searching for consistency (despite their 11-4-1 record).
The Wolf Pack fell to the Worcester Sharks for the third time this season. It was a four goal second period that doomed the Pack to the 4-3 loss. One bright note, Artem Anisimov had a goal and two assists, and Matthew Ford made his AHL debut with the Pack.
The Checkers fell 4-3 in OT and now have lost two in a row, you can read a report on the game from the Augusta Chronicle.
Former Ranger Glen Anderson is heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame, but mostly on his Edmonton Credentials. Anderson did have a Cup win with New York, but had five with the Oilers. Larry Brooks is only too happy to point out other Rangers who got inducted for their exploits elsewhere...
