► RUMOR MILL
|
Thursday - March 25th
With 18 days remaining until the NHL trade deadline, all is relatively quiet on the Rangers front.
Not unexpectedly, the Rangers are probably going to be minor players this time round, without much in the way of short term assets they would be looking to part with.
Clearly they would look at offers for those on short term or expiring contracts like Brendan Smith, Ryan Strome, Jack Johnson and perhaps the likes of Colin Blackwell.

It wasn't very pretty, but the Rangers came away with the two points to break a nine game losing streak on the road. Okay, so the Island isn't actually your typical road game, but we'll take it and it does (along with some results last night) put them just one point behind 5th in a three-way tie for 6th.
Almost all the big name players featured in the win. Nikolai Zherdev had a goal and an assist, Scott Gomez scored the game winner, while Chris Drury and Markus Naslund chipped in power play goals. Back in net, Henrik Lundqvist made several good saves to keep the Rangers in the game and deservedly picked up the third star despite allowing two goals.
Of the debutants, Nik Antropov picked up an assist on Chris Drury's goal while Derek Morris played a quiet, effective game.<
I'm getting to Avery...
The Grate One looked a little bland (not my word) in his NHL return , but did manage to draw a penalty, and several hits. He missed on his only two shots in the game, one of which saw him one on one with the Islanders defender. Late in the game he took a cross checking call in front of the Islanders net, but all in all he played a relatively smart game.
Certainly there seemed to be no complaints from the coach, his team mates...or the media. Certainly it did nothing to dispel the impressive statistics with him the line-up.
To be fair, the team the Islanders put on the ice was loaded with minor leaguers. The aggressive attacking style they played game the Rangers trouble through the first two periods, before Markus Naslund finally put the game out of reach in the third.
