RUMOR MILL

Wednesday - June 26th

Elliot Friedmman of Sportsnet, reports that the Avalanche weren't willing to include the 16th overall pick to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kreider.

Wonder who else wasn't willing to include a first rounder for him. Part of the problem of course is his UFA status next year, and then the expansion draft after that.

The Rangers will ride on THE KING'S shoulders for as long as they can

Let The Playoffs Begin
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 11:20:19 PM - April 10, 2009

The Rangers win over the Flyers, a 2-1 action packed game was good enough to clinch a playoff spot. The next question is who will they play? Will it be the Bruins, who have played physical of late. With the scrum following the Avery "love tap" to the back of goalie Thomas' head (as he stretched out way out of the goalie crease) and the fight filled game against the Canadiens last night, the Bruins have shown they will stand up for each other. If so, it should prove to be "old time hockey" as both teams sent a message when they saw each other last. It could also be the Washington Capitals which have a weakness in goal but the guys in front of him are scary good. Reigning and possibly returning Hart trophy winner Ovechkin,Backstrom,Nylander,etc.....along with Mike Green(who reminds many of Brian Leetch in his prime) are good enough to take out any team in the NHL.

The Rangers seem to be ready to take on any team that comes their way in the playoffs. The Rangers have a goalie that can steal every game he plays in. The offense, although season long has had it's problems, have been very good at times. That is what they will need, an effort such as the Andropov dive for a goal, Drury picking the corners, or even a great Gomez setup for a tip in goal in the tough areas in front of the opponents goal. That brings up Avery. Avery will take the opponent out of their game one way or another, no doubt. He needs to stay healthy enough to stay in the lineup. If all these things fall into place, the Rangers can make a long run through the playoffs.

********************************************************************************

This seasons team awards were given out with Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award going to Ryan Callahan.
The Players Player Award was shared by Captain Drury and underated Blair Betts.
The Team MVP went to King Henrik, of course.

League awards finalist will be announced soon with the only Ranger with a chance for a nomination will be Lundqvist for the Vezina(this is picked by the leagues GM's), for his 4th time in his 4 seasons. Kiprusoff leads in wins, Mason of Columbus has been great in leding Columbus to the playoffs , and my prediction will be Tim Thomas of the Bruins. My other predictions are as follows:

Calder trophy for rookie of the year will go to goalie Mason of Columbus.

Norris Trophy for best defenseman will go to Mike Green of Washington.

Hart trophy for MVP will return to Ovechkin.

Pearson trophy for players pick for league MVP should go to Malkin (who will probably be overlooked for the Hart because he is on team with Crosby)

Jack Adams award for best coach should easily go to Claude Julien as he has lead Boston to the top of the East all season long.
