RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Antropov's powerplay goal showed his skill level

Blueshirt Snipers lead Rangers in Game 1 Victory
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 12:07:08 PM - April 16, 2009

The Rangers struck first in a series that will be a highlight reel all by itself on the NHL channel. Last night, the Rangers 4 goals were all near perfect shots as Gomez found the six hole, Antropov hit a perfect corner, Naslund used a screen and a corner, and Dubinsky outside-inside deek left the Capital defencemen on his ass and threaded a needle for the winning goal. On the defensive side, the Rangers held Ovechkin without a goal but with 2 assists. Rozsival and Redden both played 27 + minutes along with Staal and Girardi as the pair mainly against the Ovechkin line. Caps superstar defenceman Green (2 assists also)was a -2 on the night while playing 30+ minutes.

There are alot of things the Rangers still need to work on to make it out of this series. The Caps won 46 out of the 66 faceoffs. Hopefully that gets addressed with Drury coming back for Saturdays game. The Rangers need to stop taking too many penalties as Ovechkin was on the ice for 11:51 of the Caps 12:13 powerplay time. Callahan was running all over hitting and getting hit, can he keep that pace up all playoffs long? Avery needs to keep walking the fine line he does so well. The Rangers need to keep the pressure and hits on Ovechkin and Green as Green played 30+ and Ovechkin played 26+ minutes and are the heart of the Caps.

Ovechkin stated after the game last night about Dubinsky's goal," It was a sick goal." Coming from the best player in the league, that means something. The confidence level on the Rangers kids of Dubinsky, Callahan, Staal, Girardi, along with vets like Gomez, Naslund, Redden, Avery, Antropov, Lundqvist, among others, is growing and that is dangerous for the Caps and whomever they meet for the rest of the playoffs.

Drury is expected back in the lineup while Voros will take a seat. If Drury is still unable to go, the Rangers will call up Anisimov.
