► RUMOR MILL
|
Thursday - December 5th
Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:
Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.
The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

The Captain isn't useful on faceoffs and should sit the next game out.

Well, here we go Rangers fans, the New York Rangers vs. the Capitals is now a series. The Rangers took a 2 games to 0 lead in Washington and were coming home to play in front of the Garden Faithful. Fans were pumped and feeling good about the Rangers chances, but that turned by the end of the first period when everyone realized the Rangers and Capitals of the first 2 games were different teams from those that were on the ice last night. Like coach Tortorella stated that it was a "good old fashioned spanking."
The Caps coach has made the first major move of the series by pulling Theodore and starting Varlamov in nets in which he has gone 1-1 and has let up only 1 goal in 2 games. The Rangers coach needs to make his first big move by sitting the ailing Drury(who played less than 11 minutes last night) and move Dubinsky up to the 2nd line. The team also needs to call up Anisimov to take the pivot on the 3rd line as he deserves the opportunity with his stellar play in Hartford. The Rangers can not play Voros in such an important game on Wed. and expect to go up 3-1 going back to Washington.
The Rangers should not be in a panic mode because a good start on Wed. would bring the momentum back to the Rangers and the worst scenario the series will be tied at 2-2(with the Caps at home and momentum), but it can also be 3-1 in favor of the blueshirts. Some Rangers players(including the coach) might have gotten caught up in the atmosphere of the Garden as it was a first playoff game there for Tortorella,Naslund,Korpikoski,Morris,Redden,Andropov, and Zherdev.
A play that most likely changed the game for good was in the first period when it looked like Callahan would tie the game with an open net goal but hit the post and on the next Washigton possesion made the score 2-0. The Caps seems to have their "cockiness" back with their celebrations and with Ovechkin pulling his practicetime "gamesmanship", but for the Rangers to win they need to put the pressure on him all over the ice as they did in the first 2 playoff games. Ovechkin is a great player, but the Rangers had him looking tired at times from hitting and receiving hits from Ovechkin all game long in games 1 and 2. When he is using his body for receiving and/or giving hits, he isn't scoring or setting up goals. Keep the pressure on the Capitals, because you still have the upper hand Rangers.
