► RUMOR MILL
|
Thursday - December 5th
Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:
Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.
The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Of the Rangers Big Contracts, Rozsival is being asked about the most
|
|
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 8:21:29 AM - June 3, 2009
It is common practice that every G.M. makes deals from a teams strengths to try to build up it's weakness. So far since the Rangers collapse from the 3-1 game lead to the offensive powerhouse Capitals in this years playoffs, the Rangers have signed 3 defenseman to make 19 signed at this moment. The Rangers signed free agent Hobey Baker winner Gilroy(6-2;205lbs),Heikkinen from Finland(6-2;200lbs),and last years 1st round pick Del Zotto(6;188lbs). Morris and Mara are UFA while Potter and Denisov are RFA this offseason. The Rangers have 4 returnees from last year under contract in Staal,Girardi,Rozsival, and Redden. The Hartford/Charlotte/Prospect contracts have at least 4 players looking to battle for NHL spots. This is just a quick look at who may be on the move to find this team the offensive scoring it needs.
REDDEN: Tortorella made a point of pulling him aside his first practice as coach and it seemed to step up his game some. Sathers contract to him makes it a sure bet that he stays for at least 1 more year. ROZSIVAL: Rosie had a great start as a Ranger during the "Czech Mates years" but injuries have hampered him. His offensive abilities and 25+ minutes per game along with his $4.3 mil salary($5 mil cap hit) make him attractive to teams(Look for Oilers, Stars,Blues). STAAL: Has become the shutdown dman the Rangers dreamed about. Tortorella wants him to add his offensive rushes and point shot more this season. Should be signed to a long extension next year. GIRARDI: He was another free agent signing overlooked by the whole NHL. Has played solid as a Ranger so far but has seemed to have plateaued. His age, salary, and play are sure to make him part of any deal for a scoring winger. MARA: Last year Mara stepped up and played a physical role(not a fighter) and helped bring along the younger defenseman. After talking to Tortorella at the exit interviews he stated he wants to be a Ranger for a long time. Rangers will resign him for around $1.75 a year. MORRIS: Hardly got to know him, but his plans are elsewhere. At exit interview he said everyone should play some part of their career in N.Y. Cost is too much and at his price not a fit.
The Rangers are going to give Sanguinetti,DelZotto,Sauer,Fahey, and Potter(if resigned) every chance to make the NHL this summer. Just not sure if it will be with the Rangers or as part of a deal for the offensive player to make the Rangers a real contender for the cup.
Waiting on the next level are Kandratek,Busto,Gaulton, and Dowzak. The Rangers also still retain the rights to Ivan Baranka(6-3;205) who if stays in the USA would be given a long hard look to make the Rangers. Well Ranger fans, this is the offseason that will add more youth or move it for a player needed again. But this time it needs to be for the long term success of this franchise.
