RUMOR MILL

Thursday - December 5th

Per Elliot Friedman of Sportsnet:

Prior to the December 1st deadline, the Oikers apparently tried again to move Jesse Pujljujarvi, and the Rangers were reportedly one of the teams interested.

The trade would have involved Lias Andersson going the other way, but ultimately they could work out a deal.

Brandon Prust scored his second straight game winner

Rangers A Little Prusty In Florida
Posted by Toby Ivey ≡ 10:34:56 AM - April 4, 2010

Marc Staal scored his third goal in three games, and Brandon Prust netted his second straight game winner to push the Rangers into a tie with the eighth placed Philadelphia Flyers. With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Blueshirts have almost completed yet another late season comeback.

And the heroes were once again unlikely. For much of the year the team has primarily relied on Marian Gaborik and Henrik Lundqvist to earn them points, but this latest 5-0-1 stretch has finally seen other team members stepping up to shoulder the load.

This was no less apparent last night, with the Rangers trailing 1-0 after forty minutes, having moderately outplayed the Panthers for the first two periods, but having given Florida netminder Scott Clemmensen little to trouble him.

The momentum of the game changed however, just 18 seconds into the game when Marc Staal skated the length of the ice and wristed a shot high to the stick side to not only suprise Clemmensen, but seemingly himself as well.

The goal energized the Rangers, who shortly afterwards earned their first and only power play of the game when Brandon Prust drew a high sticking call on Steve Reinprecht. The Rangers didn't score on the man advantage, but Prust would put the visitors up for good when he batted a rebound home to give New York a 2-1 lead.

Captain Chris Drury knocked his own rebound chance 90 seconds later after some sustained pressure from the Rangers, and New York looked in control with a 3-1 advantage. A roughing penalty to Prust gave the Panther a chance to get back into the game, but the Rangers killed it off and sealed the game on an empty net goal to Marian Gaborik.

Notes
Marc Staal scored a goal in his third straight game and now has eight on the season. Prust scored his second straight goal, both of which have been game winners.

Aaron Voros started well in his fight with Nick Tarnasky, but his opponent got the upperhand late forcing Voros to bring him down to the ice. Voros was unhappy when the linesman jumped on top of him following the take-down, as his leg was caught under him, which caused his knee to bend awkwardly. Voros gave the linesman an earful but was able to continue the game.
