The Internet has had Dubinsky on the move all summer
|
|

The Rangers did not address their biggest need this offseason in getting a #1 center. What they did do was get their most talented center to leave college early and make the NHL roster. With Stepan given the chance to center Gaborik and Frolov early on, the Rangers got to see what the future will look like. The Rangers, right now need to take the pressure off of Stepan and ease the rookie into his NHL career. He has played well between Avery and Fedetenko but not ready to face the opposing teams top defensive pairing as the #1 center.
Rumors have been hanging around the Rangers all summer and so far this season as to trades that may happen to bring in the needed #1 pivot that will make the Rangers a real contender. I have always been a big fan of the youth movement the Rangers have put together with the core group of King Henrik, Staal, Girardi, DelZotto, Callahan, Dubinsky and Anisimov . Add in this year Stepan and Sauer and the future is now. With Krieder most likely coming out of college after this year and Grachev both ready next year on left wing, it will be very possible that if an opportunity is there, Sather will make the move for a star center. This leads to the latest rumor to make sense.
There are rumors(not just Eklund folks), that have the Rangers going after Spezza. Well, Spezza was sat out of last nights game which could very well mean that a trade is about to happen. Who will he go to who knows, but we all know Sather will have a seat at the offer table. To get a player of his skillset and size it would probably cost Dubinsky, a high pick, and a young defenseman(Sauer, McDonagh, or Valetenko who Ottawa tried to get from Montreal 2 years ago). That would give the Rangers strength down the middle of Spezza, Anisimov,Stepan, and Boyle this year.
You have to give something to get something. Do you think giving a player of our core and a future dman along with a pick is too much? A player of big payroll has to go in another trade to make it work (maybe Rozsival added in?). Stay the way we are or pull the trigger and have Gaborik centered by Spezza for years? That is the question.
