RUMOR MILL

Wednesday - June 26th

Elliot Friedmman of Sportsnet, reports that the Avalanche weren't willing to include the 16th overall pick to the Rangers in exchange for Chris Kreider.

Wonder who else wasn't willing to include a first rounder for him. Part of the problem of course is his UFA status next year, and then the expansion draft after that.

MZA showed that he is NHL ready playing on the top line vs. the Lightning.

Sather, Let MZA Play in NYC
Posted by Michael M. Ramos ≡ 9:51:58 AM - December 24, 2010

In the Rangers last game before the Christmas break, the Norweigan Hobbit got his callup and showed he can play with the Blueshirts and at the NHL level. Coach Torts played MZA with Dubinsky and Stepan most of the night and they made many chances and his best play was a touch pass from the corner that Dubinsky rang off the post.

Speaking of Stepan, his goal that he scored from behind the goal line was just another highlight that lets everyone know how good he can be. With Gaborik kept out of the game as precaution for a groin injury, MZA was given over 17 minutes of icetime. He was even asked by coach Tort's if he wanted to take a penalty shot in the shootout phase of the overtime and he said yes. With the game on the line, Zuccarello showed his skillset with a great move along with change of skating speed for a goal that kept the Rangers alive at that point. The Rangers lost it in the 11th round and left all Rangers fans looking at the bench for Marek Malik to come off the bench to win the game to no avail.

MZA was sent back down to Hartford after the game as the Whale play a game this weekend while the Rangers don't play again until Monday vs the Islanders. The hope is that MZA is brought back up and White is sent down as MZA plays a better NHL game and is less of a cap hit by over 1/2 million. Tort's would be able to field a more balanced lineup if Gaborik does play on Monday as is expected with the MZA recall and demotion of White. The lines could look something like these with the better play of Frolov, Callahans injury, and Boyles leveling off for now:
Frolov-Anisimov-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Stepan-MZA
Fedetenko-Christensen-Drury
Avery--Boyle--Prust

There of course are other combinations to be put together, but if MZA is recalled it will be for top 9 forward time so Frolov better step up production on a regular basis.

MERRY CHRISTAMS TO ALL AND HOPE SANTA BRINGS THE RANGERS MANY WINS THIS SEASON!
