Oh, ok, I didn't know he was in. Ok. I didn't see him play nor Gilbert. He was better?
They are both Ranger legends....Gilbert had a rocket of a shot....knew how to get in the scoring areas. Ratelle was a smooth skater who passed the puck better than anyone not named Orr during his prime. He also had a pretty good wrist shot, and could certainly snipe (and didn't get beat much on face offs).
I think you could compare him to Backstrom/Jeff Carter in today's game.
I would imagine that if Corsi existed back then, the GAG line would have been off the charts cause they always had the puck.

Guys.....Ratelle is very much in the hockey hall of fame.
My favorite player growing up....did everything well (except hitting....sorry PV, but he had Hadfield to do that).
Long overdue to get his number in the rafters....
Long overdue indeed. Gentleman Jean was perhaps the best center to play for the Rangers until this Messier guy came along. While he didn't initiate much hitting, I also remember him standing up for himself and not taking any crap. Hadfield's primary job was to protect Gilbert from the Ferguson's of the league.
Sucked when he got traded. Seeing him in that filthy Bruins jersey for the first time made me ill.
