ON POINT

In the Rangers' 3-2 overtime win against San Jose on Oct. 11, Brendan Smith registered the game-tying goal with 2:39 remaining in regulation, and Brady Skjei recorded the game-winning goal in overtime. The contest marked the first time in franchise history that Rangers defensemen recorded a game-tying goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation and also tallied the game-winning goal in overtime.

SHOOTING GALLERY

The Rangers have registered 131 shots on goal through the first four games of the 2018-19 season (32.8 shots on goal per game). In addition, eight different Blueshirts have recorded eight or more shots on goal through the first four games of the season.

LEADING THE WAY

The Rangers have five alternate captains for the 2018-19 season - Jesper Fast, Chris Kreider, Marc Staal, Mika Zibanejad, and Mats Zuccarello. Staal is in his ninth season as an alternate captain with the Rangers, as he was first named an alternate captain at the start of the 2010-11 season. Among players on the current roster, Staal is the longest-tenured member of the team's leadership group. Zuccarello is in his second season as an alternate captain with the Rangers after first being named an alternate captain on Oct. 4, 2017, while Fast, Kreider, and Zibanejad all wore an 'A' during the second half of the 2017-18 season.

HOME COOKING

The Blueshirts registered their first home win of the 2018-19 season on Oct. 11 vs. San Jose. The Rangers earned at least one point in 25 of 41 home games in 2017-18 (21-16-4 record at MSG). KING HENRIK

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 41 of 43 shots he faced, including 34 of 35 shots he faced at even strength, to earn the win in the Rangers' last game on Oct. 11 vs. San Jose. He has allowed two goals in each of his first three appearances in 2018-19. Lundqvist has stopped 97 of 103 shots he has faced in three appearances in 2018-19 (.942 SV%), as well as 81 of 84 shots he has faced at even strength (.964 SV% at even strength). Lundqvist is one of three goaltenders in NHL history who have posted a .920 SV% or better in eight different seasons since the league began to track saves and SV% in 1955-56 (along with Dominik Hasek and Roberto Luongo). Lundqvist has appeared in 808 career games as a Ranger, and he is three appearances away from tying Jim Neilson (811) for the eighth-most regular season appearances by a Rangers player (skater or goaltender) in franchise history.

Master the basics as a group, weed out the non conformists and under motivated, then add the system layers of counteracting what other teams do, then worry about becoming a offensive dynamo.

The NHL is a joke. Clear takedown on Hayes, no call.

Of course Namestnikov is thrown to the box for comparably nothing.

This is slowly becoming a pattern.

Missed penalty on opposing player, then penalty on a Ranger and, of course, PPG goal for the other team.

What is it third time already this season?

What I see so far is McQuaid should not be a regular....Shattenkirk is no good but if his knee is not ready yet then let him just keep rehabbing it and he can come back and play when he is ready...but nothing will change anyway...he is soft and no good

So when we score a lot then the opposition scores more.If we committed to D then we can’t score and when we committed to O we can’t defend.
Looks like we are short of players each time.

Just as well. He'd hit the first blocking player and it would deflect directly into the Rangers goal.

Tough loss. Good effort by Hayes, Zib, Fast, Kreider, Vesey, Zuc, Names, Hank and the D. Buch was MIA and I think Chytil still needs time in Hartford.

Lettieri 8:46
Spooner 9:36
Chytil 10:19
Buch 11:22
Names 12:48

Skjei with 26:16 - the rest are pretty balanced. Shatty and Staal are shaky in the D end. Shatty will get better. Claesson is a nice pick up. Smith looks steady. The D was not lazy, just overmatched at times against a loaded offensive team - yet only gave up 1 5v5 and a ppg. Hank was excellent.

Reffing contiunues to be a Shyt show. Missed hayes getting collared down, then the absurd Names call after he got taken out and then the absurd staal call, both which involved Yamamoto. Yamamoto seems to fall down when there is a light breeze.

I rarely complain about refs, some bad calls this game. This being said scoring 1-2 goals a game won't win any games. PP 1-for-12. Hank's great goaltending 2 goals per game is being wasted. Too many players doing nothing.

They had a great start, and then let their foot off in the second and third except in spurts and by to few. I agree with Leetchy to many passengers in the second and third. I think coach will get that rectified and it will probably result in a trade or two. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see which players are digging their own hole. Chytil is looking very ineffective with his flashes of skill few and far between. Better to send him to Hartford and let him and Andersson dominate down there before coming back up, only then will they be truly ready. Fogarty showed enough in camp to fill the fourth center hole, depending on Boo Nieves availability and Quinn’s choice between the two. . Let Quinn work with that group till the trade deadline, unless some dead wood can be moved sooner. Andersson, Chytil, Hajek, and Lindgren could all be ready and a good infusion of new blood after trade deadline maneuvers by Gorton.

Said several times. This is not a rebuild until they commit to actually playing a substantial amount of youth. Essentially, Gorton is playing half-ass vets because he's greedy and wants to sell them off at the deadline for picks. Meanwhile, young players like Andersson, Howden, Bigras, Hajek, Lindgren and Fontaine are getting screwed. They basically will lose almost an entire year of NHL experience because of Gorton's incompetence. Let's face it. He screws up an awful lot. He totally underestimated his farm system. If he didn't, he would have never signed Namestnikov, Spooner and Cleasson. Just dumb. For the first time, I'm alright with moving Zucc. I think he's lost a step to start this season.

Don't be surprised if Chytil gets sent down... and if he does, don't go saying the kid is a bust! These are VERY young players! I'm not sure why there is such a rush to have them all be playing in New York...

I understand the excitement, and because of it the impatience.... but this isn't some prefab house we're rebuilding here. 3 little pigs... we can either rush it and build the house from sticks, or actually develop these players the right way and make it from bricks.

Hajek officially has 13 whole games in the AHL... Ryan Lindgren has 15! That's some serious experience right there... But Andersson, now if you want to talk experience, he's played 30 full games in the AHL. If he's not ready by now, we should probably start to riot.

They're all on the bubble here. They're right where they need to be, and we will see them in the NHL soon. How soon?

Well, Lias now has a team leading 6 points in 5 games... If he keeps that up, Lettieri will be out.

A good player? When was he a God? He's second on the team in points and tied for 1st in goals. Same stat line as Kreider and Howden through 5 games...

FIVE GAMES! haha everyone needs to relax

Buch could have a 3 point night next game and be far and away the top scorer on the team through 6 games, and put him on pace for a point per game player haha

One day people might wake up and realize, there is more to becoming a valuable player than scoring points. Young players have many skills and mental components to their game that need developing. Most all top end prospects can score at lower levels of hockey. They are there to improve more in other areas of their game. If they don't, they don't make it. Players should be promoted when they are ready to compete and contribute full time. Like Howden. he plays a solid 200 ft game, and will soon be the number two center if he isn't already.

I hope Belesky can come in and be consistently effective as he was before he got hurt. That little bit of extra physicality will be a big difference to keep the compete level up. I love spark plug players.

He and Andersson instead of Namestnikov and Lettieri would be solid

I think when Beleskey comes back that will put Lettieri on the shuttle

I hope Belesky can come in and be consistently effective as he was before he got hurt. That little bit of extra physicality will be a big difference to keep the compete level up. I love spark plug players.

He and Andersson instead of Namestnikov and Lettieri would be solid

...Altho Names has been giving good effort last 2 games

No finish, though! He's had some grade A chances.... if he buried some of those, these 1 goal games would be different stories

That's the town I've lived in most of my life. I was a life guard at the water park once upon a time. Cooked dinner for the owner once, too. He also owns most of the golf resorts in the area... owned... he recently passed away.

Fun facts

It's still a water park in the Summer and ski resort in the Winter. They brought back the name Action Park a few years ago

Never liked Buchnevich. He's lazy and IMO will never become a top 6 guy. He is awful defensively. Yet, his trade value would be high because he's cheap. I've been a supporter of trading him for a long time. If you can use him to move a player like Smith or Staal, get back a 1st and a top 3rd-4th line forward prospect with an edge, I'm all for it. He is easily replaced. Andersson can replace him tomorrow. Gettinger is closer than I thought as well. Maybe this year dumbass Gorton will actually use the first rounders on forwards.

As in the personnel are the same, but he listed the Howden line above the Hayes line?

No not really. Except for the fact that Howden has moved up from the 4th line center to the 2nd line.

The thing with benchings is they only work, if while benched the Coach and player have a detailed to the point conversation why the player is being benched, and the player agrees and commits to the coaches instructions. . Vigneault was well within his rights to bench and move players down the lineup last year and did. Problem appeared to be little conversation or coaching took place because players got back in the lineup or moved back up the lineup, with very little discernible or lasting difference in their game. So far watching the effect on Namestnikov and his obvious increase in attention to detail and effort, since being benched one can make the leap some serious and constructive discussions took place between player and coach.
Buchnevich is a talent but he disappears far to often, even after showing signs of commitment that all to soon wanes after benchings. He has to few highs to his game and to many lows, and he's got to even that out with a push on his part to the high side of his game. He's at a critical point in his career, what's he going to be a player? or a bust? Its up to Quinn to unlock the the guys game get him committed to a two way game with some physicality which falls well within his abilities.

Or 3rd.

I actually think they listed the Hayes line as the "top" line tonight, with Zibanejad as the "second".... it doesn't matter what order they're in. The top 9 will all see equal ice time
