NUMBERS GAME

In four games facing Jake Allen, the Rangers have put eight pucks past him on 68 shots (.824 save percentage). On Sunday the Blues gave Evan Fitzpatrick, a 2016 second-round pick, his first call-up from AHL San Antonio.

Henrik Lundqvist's 13th save on Saturday night made him the ninth goaltender in NHL history to make 22,000 saves. He now sits on 22,021 for his career, 182 back of John Vanbiesbrouck for eighth-most all-time.

Ryan O'Reilly has won 59.3 percent of his faceoffs, fourth-best among NHL players who have taken at least 100 draws.

The Blues have been shorthanded 68 times on home ice, third-most in the league, and have killed just 75 percent of those penalties (26th).

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Chris Kreider has scored in four consecutive games, and has six goals over his last six matches. Kreider's early goal on Saturday gave him his fourth career 20-goal season.

In his 12th NHL season and his third go-round with the Blues, David Perron is on pace for his first career 30-goal campaign, with three goals in his last five games and 13 on the year, second on the team to Ryan O'Reilly's 14.

So it’s just a matter of till DQ will start crying that he has no players good enough to play on his team.

The Rangers and Giants always seem to have similar paths. Eli Manning and Henrik Lundqvist.... both at the ends of their careers. Did great things with their teams.... Lundqvist never actually winning it all.... yet.... but may that be a testiment to the fact that the NHL playoffs are just plain harder to win it all.
Both still have enough in them for next season... neither in their primes anymore, but these are team sports.

And both teams are in a rebuild. Yes they are still the leader faces of the franchise, but if the teams around them are young enough, and talented enough... there is a race against the clock that can be won.

At the same time, the teams need to prepare for moving on without them, too.

Just a thought to start 2019 with. Not really related to the gdt, but....

Eli is a 2 time SB MVP....and I believe in both of those runs he won all the games on the road

It is hard to compare a goalie and a QB, but I would say Hank has been better goalie than Eli has been QB.

Eli's first SB MVP should have gone to the Giants D. The D was able to limit the hyper NE offense to 14 points. Eli is 116-114 in games he has started - the very definition of mediocre. The Giants have been in the playoffs one time since the SB after the 2011 season (Eli was 30). Eli has ruined the Giants ability to see beyond his very average abilities. He did rise to the occasion on those 2 SB runs, but they made the playoffs (only) 4 other times and lost all 4 times in the first round. Think of all the QBs available in the last draft and the Giants took a RB - because of Eli. The Giants are kidding themselves if they don't make an effort to get a QB in this up coming draft.

Lol That was a hell of a pass to Manningham....Not too shabby going to Green Bay in 3 degree weather and winning that game either...and I am no Giant fan. His track record overall isnt awesome but he got it done in the big spots

I'm not just comparing Manning and Lundqvist.... it's the teams.... They both have enjoyed relative success at the same time, and are now in a rebuild at the same time

Rebuilds that could overlap in to more success for Manning and Lundqvist if the chips fall right.

Both The Rangers and Giants could be much improved next year compared to this year, and though Manning and Lundqvist are both at the end of their careers, they can both be big factors in possibly making one last run at a championship for themselves in NY before they retire.
