Maybe a bit on the optimist side, after all:
Kreider is in a bit of uncharted territory right now, he's been amongst the leaders before early on in the season, but has never sustained it before. Perhaps this similar to Adam Graves' performance in the Cup year...still time to go to figure that out.
Shesterkin is indeed at the top, or near the top in terms of Vezina candidacy, though his health still remains an underlying concern over an 82 game schedule...which he has never played before
Gallant was tied at the half way mark I think in terms of votes, with Sullivan for the Penguins....Brind'amour third...interesting that they're all in the Metro
First in the Metro* - meaning they're actually third in terms of points percentage, with the Canes who are 2 points back, but have 4 games in hand, and the Penguins who are 1 point back with a game in hand
Fourth in the league* - again, they're actually sixth in the league in terms of win percentage, which is an important consideration with teams having played a wide range of games so far
I think the biggest issues I see with the Rangers:
5v5 offense - they rank 22nd in the league in terms of full strength goals per game at 1.814, and are the only playoff team that ranks out of the top half. Florida leads the league with 2.837, and there are 13 teams averaging 2+ per game. All except Columbus are in playoff position.
Dependence on Kreider (and Zibanejad) - The Rangers have just three players with 10+ goals....that contrasts with other teams like
FLA (8 )
CAR (5) - with Fast and Kotkaniemi at 9 with those 4 games in hand
STL (5) - O'Reilly and Schenn at 9 with 2 games in hand
That single dimension feel to the Rangers offense, makes it easier to defend against, particularly in the playoffs when PPs become harder to earn
The defense needs another guy to replace Nemeth who can eat up more time too...that way I think you can reduce the exposure of Miller/Trouba at key times, and reduce some of the ice time that Fox/Lindgren are chewing up now (and looking a bit tired as a result).
It's going to be harder to beef up the offense that much...especially with Cap constraints the way they are next season.

The 5 v 5 suckage is due to not replacing Buchnevich. It is clear that Chytl is not a 3rd line center. He should have been tried at top 6 wing much sooner maybe after Blais went out. Kakko, after 150 games, is probably what we see - maybe middle 6 material. Laf still has not shown a lot, but he still has a better north/south game than Chytl/Kakko. The back end of the D is still erratic. There are a lot of holes to fix for a cup run. Maybe adding JT Miller would work, but at the expense of who? Strome would have to be gone due to money - either this season and maybe eff with panarin and the room, or after the season lose Strome for nothing? Adding Miller and losing Strome seems to be a bit of a wash. They shouldn't do something unless they truly think there is a chance.

Kakko and Lafreniere are not being developed properly because the organization is fucking stupid. Kakko has played seven games where he got 18+ minutes of ice time and in those seven games he has six points. It’s not rocket science to figure out how to develop a young forward but the Rangers don’t seem to understand how to do it. Lafreniere is averaging 13 minutes of ice time which is a fucking joke for a guy that was taken first overall in the draft. Fans keep thinking this organization knows what it’s doing which is funny considering they have one cup in the last 82 years. This team has little to zero chance of winning a playoff series because they suck at even strength and are not developing their two most talented young forwards. Ultimately the organization will end up trading Kakko and Lafreniere due to their fucking incompetence and they will go on to be point per game players somewhere else while the Rangers win jack shit as usual.

Blah, blah blah, Gallant and Drury in your words "fucking stupid" after all they are the organization. But of course a basement dwelling, glue sniffing ,putz, like you knows more about developing players than they do. . Righto Chipster.
