im seriously appauled at how people want avery of all people out of here. he might of had a sucky season, just like 99% of the team did, but it was he and lundqvist not our captains who held team meetings to say the play was unacceptable and to get it together. even with his season last year I'd want him on my third line any team just for what he's capable of bringing

My personal feelings about Avery aside

Tortorella + NHL Refs = epic failure for Avery

It is no more complicated than that

I think we can simplify it even further: Avery...

Avery has limited conditions in which he can be successful. When Renney was here, things were good for him, but more often than not they're going to be unsuccessful. In Detroit there was a joke going around that he dressed in his own room. In LA the coaching staff tired of managing him. In Dallas he was an out and out failure.

He's an abrasive guy, and that worked to his advantage for a period of time, but at a certain point it just gets old and boring.

Avery's inability to stop being Avery OFF the ice is what has hurt him. He placed the bullseye on his back, and Bettman and Co. succeeded in neutering him.

Without the ability to be Avery,he is nothing more than a marginal 3rd liner, and, frankly, there are plenty of those on this roster who will not place their team a man down just because they sneezed near an opposing goalie.

You do have to wonder about a professional league in which players are treated differently on the ice because of who they are off the ice. I guess thinking the whole point to having officials was to level the playing field can be thrown out the window.

But when the season begins Dolan, Sather, and Tortorella are going to be here.

There appears to be a good chance that Avery will not -- and that will make the team better.

I am not so sure no Avery makes this team better. I have no clue what goes on in the locker room but when this team is sleepskating through a game, at least Avery wakes them up here and there. I think the Devils beat the Rangers almost every game without Avery. I also think Atlanta and especially Kovalchuk has a better series against the Rangers that year with no Avery.

Boring? This whole team was a personality lacking borefest last year! It least it a little exciting when Avery is on the ice because you don't know what hes going to do.
