I tried making a new avatar a few times....always says file is too big (its just regular pictures)

if you have some web space you can upload it. And then use the url. I have had to do that with a few creations.

Paint.net is a good photoshop alternative. I've used it from time to time for quick edits (I still have photoshop but paint.net sometimes is just easier to throw something together on)

I actually made this several years ago on Paint.net and it's been updated a bit since then. I see it every now and again around the internet which is pretty cool.
