TONIGHT'S GAME
The Rangers play their 39th game of the 2016-17 season tonight, Dec. 31, against the Colorado Avalanche at Pepsi Center (8:00 p.m. ET - TV: MSG 2; Radio: ESPN 1050 AM). New York has won nine of its last 13 contests (9-4-0), including eight of its last 11 games (8-3-0) and five of its last seven games (5-2-0). The Rangers have posted a 25-12-1 record this season.
 
RANGERS VS. AVALANCHE

Lundqvist's next appearance would be his 711th career appearance with the Rangers, and he would tie Olaf Kolzig for the fourth-most appearances by a goaltender with one franchise in NHL history.
 
PUEMP IT UP
Matt Puempel tallied his first career NHL hat trick on Dec. 29 at Arizona, and he recorded three power play goals in the game. He became the first Ranger to register three power play goals in one game since Mike Gartner on Jan. 31, 1994 vs. Pittsburgh. Puempel has registered a point in each of the last two games (three goals, one assist) and in three of the last four contests (four goals, one assist). Puempel has also notched a goal in each of the Rangers' last two road contests (Dec. 20 at Pittsburgh and Dec. 29 at Arizona).
 
CAPTAIN MAC
Ryan McDonagh established a single-game career-high with three assists and tied a single-game career-high with three points on Dec. 27 vs. Ottawa. He leads the Rangers in assists (22), and he leads team defensemen in assists and points (24) in 2016-17. In 72 regular season games during the 2016 calendar year, McDonagh has registered 41 points (six goals, 35 assists) and a plus-26 rating. McDonagh is tied for first among NHL defensemen in games with an assist (18) and is tied for fourth among NHL defensemen in games with a point (19) this season. In addition, he is tied for first among NHL defensemen in primary assists (13), ranks second in even strength assists (15), ranks fourth in assists (22), and is tied for fifth in points (24) in 2016-17. McDonagh enters the contest with a three-game assist/point streak (one goal, five assists), and has registered 10 points (one goal, nine assists) over his last 10 games.
 
STEP-AN UP
Derek Stepan leads the Rangers in points this season (28; nine goals, 19 assists). He has recorded 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in the last 20 games, including 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in the last 14 contests and seven points (four goals, three assists) in the last five games. In 82 regular season games during the 2016 calendar year, Stepan has registered 68 points (25 goals, 43 assists).
 
KREID-ING HIGH
Chris Kreider leads the Rangers in multi-point games this season (seven). He has tallied 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in the last 14 games, and he is tied for fourth in the NHL in goals in December. Kreider enters the contest with a three-game point streak (three goals, two assists) and has registered six points (four goals, two assists) in the last five games.
 
WELCOME MATS
Mats Zuccarello enters the contest with a five-game assist/point streak (seven assists). Zuccarello's five-game assist streak is tied for his career-high, and he has posted a five-game assist streak three times in his NHL career (Jan. 29, 2014 - Feb. 7, 2014; Jan. 31, 2015 - Feb. 8, 2015). In addition, he has registered 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in the last 13 games. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, 155 of Zuccarello's 196 points have either been a goal or the primary assist on a goal.
 
HOLDEN STEADY
Nick Holden is one of four NHL defensemen who have registered at least 20 points and a plus-16 rating this season. He leads Rangers defensemen in goals (seven), even strength goals (five), power play goals (two), even strength points (17), and plus/minus rating (plus-16) in 2016-17. Holden has posted a multi-point game in each of the last two contests (three goals, one assist), and he has recorded at least one goal in each of the last two games. He has recorded a goal in two consecutive games for the first time in his NHL career, and he has also posted a multi-point game in two consecutive games for the first time in his NHL career. Holden has notched eight points (four goals, four assists) in the last 10 games.
 
HEY HEY HAYES
Kevin Hayes tied single-game career-highs with three assists and three points on Dec. 29 at Arizona. He has registered four assists/points over the last two games and seven assists/points in the last nine contests. Hayes has notched a point in 18 of the Rangers' 25 wins this season, and the Blueshirts have posted an 18-1-0 record in games which he has tallied a point in 2016-17.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS
The Rangers are one of two NHL teams that have a 22.0% power play efficiency and an 83.0% penalty kill efficiency or better in 2016-17.
 
Power Play:
The Rangers were 4-for-7 (9:15) on Dec. 29 at Arizona; New York recorded four power play goals in a game for the first time since Feb. 4, 2010 vs. Washington.
