"Glenn Healy was one of eight on-air personalities who were let go in a purge on Monday at Rogers and Hockey Night in Canada. Healy was opinionated, a personality trait that will be largely missing on HNIC telecasts next season."

Fired one day by HNIC and hired the next by MSG.

One must think the hiring of Healy knocks Duguay out of the picture.

Or maybe Joe Micheletti goes to NBC full time, and Healy joins Sam in the booth!

That would be fine by me, but I think Healy's to much of a loose canon to have all that air time. I was always hoping Dave Maloney would replace Joe.

You got also keep in mind, how much longer will Sam last.

I love Dave. Sam is going to do this until he dies, I think.... I just hope they don't replace HIM with Giannone.... that guy puts me to sleep

It will be a sad, sad day when Sam is gone. He's been calling all the TV for as far back as I've been watching Rangers hockey.

A while back I heard MSG spoke to Duguay about his style of clothing, and just like that he was wearing suits, no ear ring and cut his hair. But resently, he was starting to wear his 1970's throw back clothing. Hate to see him go if he is replaced by Healy.

I was never crazy about Giannone and remember the feud between him and Avery... but the last game I went to see the Rangers he spoke to my son for about 15 minutes saying he had a son his age.... he was real interested in how NC schools were. He's a real nice guy and is very friendly with fans... with that said he is a real bore on air.

Ditto on Sammie and Dave for company man Joe any time soon.

So when are they going to speak to Walt "Clyde" Frazier?

For the past 45 years, the Rangers have had two of the best Hockey PBP men ever.....the legendary Jim Gordon, and then Sam. Even the color guys were awesome, with Bill Chadwick, then Espo, then JD. I wouldn't miss Mich very much at all.

Healy is a welcome addition.

The Big Whistle!

Espo and JD gave you years of an ex-Rangers perspective, something I think is important to Ranger fans.... Joe is dry and blah.

Two words: Kenny. Albert. He should be Sam's replacement.

Sam can't see so good these days. Those glasses are not working. He needs a new level of thickness. Joe has to correct him about 10 times a night when he calls the wrong players or doesn't see the puck hit posts or sticks. Sam is technically better than Jim Gordon was, but Gordon will always be my favorite. His "play by play" consisted of just calling names of players who touched the puck, but it was awesome to me.

"Vickers .......... Tkachuk ............ Fairburn .......... Park ............ Vickeeeeerrrrsssss .... SCORE!!!"

The Big Whistle had great stories, awesome phrases, and he was clearly a supporter of the Rangers and the fans. His excitement was sincere and I miss him terribly. JD was perhaps the hardest working and most knowledgeable color guy the Rangers have ever had. Espo was irreverent and fun at times, like Keith Hernandez is with the Mets now, but not as self-centered. Joe is OK, but he's actually better on the NBC broadcasts than he is on MSG. I think he's too deferential to Sam and too afraid of pissing off the MSG suits to speak his mind, which disappears when he's on NBC. But as said by others, Dave Maloney would be a huge improvement.

I too like Kenny Albert and am amazed he doesn't have a big NHL TV play by play job already.

Re the big whistle 2 things come to mind about his pre-broadcasting carrer as an NHL referee. One - he was the 1st US born ref which shows how Canada-centric the league was before the 60s. The second is that he was blind in one eye. Could you even imagine anyone being given a job as a professional referee/official in any sport today, let alone have the success he had with such a handicap? And what the fans would say or shout if a call didn't go their way?

As a team, I did like Gordon and Chadwick a lot but prefer the Sam/JD team most (Oh baby!).

I grew up with Jim Gotdon and Bill Chadwick and the Rangers have always had the best in the booth; Sam and JD were great chemistry. I still don't like Micehletti. I would rather have Maloney as the color guy. Kenny Albert is the logical choice to replace Sam once he decides his exit strategy. Howie Rose is also a fine hockey announcer and could be ok with him replacing Sam although he has retired from hockey for his baseball stuff. I think he would love the Rangers job.

I thought it was WNEW that Marv and Sal did the games. Sundays at 7:30pm. My ears still hurt from the earplug I used all those nights, hiding a transistor radio under my blanket to hear the third period.

I like Sam, but the radio broadcast is a lot more fun to listen to.

I don't think Sam likes Joe Micheletti either.... I always sense tension in Sam's voice when talking with Joe.... almost always anyway.

Kenny Albert and Dave Maloney are great

That high pitched shriek during the call was actually Maloney.

Maloney steps on all of LaGrecca's calls its a thing now.

I actually like LaGrecca and his excitable calls.

He is also the co-host of the Michael Kay show on ESPN radio here on NY. He grew up a Devils, Giants and Mets fan.

But he also does the pre/post show for the Jets.

He has said multiple times on the air that he is a Devils fan, but he has grown to care alot about the Rangers.
