I sure hope this is a sign of things to come, because if the Rangers haven't figured out that they are the leagues virtual punching bag then there is no hope of them going anywhere near Lord Stanley's Cup, No team has one the cup in recent years that I can remember without an element of toughness.

Kudos to Klein, Krieder and JT Miller for answering the bell, lets hope it continues !

"There was a notable physical edge to the Blueshirts in Monday’s 3-2 victory over the Kings, continuing an encouraging trend that has been developing over the last week to 10 days. For when Kevin Klein stepped in and dropped the gloves in support of Mats Zuccarello after the Norwegian had been properly accosted by Los Angeles defenseman Brayden McNabb for his extra dig or two for the puck under goaltender Jeff Zatkoff’s glove at 17:18 of the first period, it marked the third time in four games a Ranger had responded to a teammate’s distress".

The change in attitude was nice to see. One wonders if it was sparked by some verbal challenges thrown their way by the Kings that night. Or maybe this is a long term adjustment (hopefully) that will continue tonight against the Fleabags on home ice. And I'd bet good money that the players had to plead with AV to let them assert themselves physically without him nailing their asses to the bench as punishment for playing tough.

Unfortunately, I'd rather see some full-time grinders and tough guys added to the 4th line who will do the majority of this kind of thing. We don't want to see scorers like Kreider and Miller spending too much time in the box, especially if some dopey ref hits them with an instigator. It's OK for them to stand up for themselves or react to a situation while they're on the ice. But the "sending messages" stuff should be assigned to 4th liners who are supposed to be doing that stuff. Also, Klein has the heart and attitude, but he's not the heavyweight masher we need added on the backline.
