Agreed...however, I saw this little gem on HF last night and it does give me some hope:

"Also remember that the rangers canned torts like 3 months after giving him a multi year extension."

That's not true. Tortorella was extended in spring 2011 and fired two years later in 2013 after the playoff loss to the Bruins.

Sorry Mj!

I guess this means we will have to wait until the end of the 2018-2019 season for ax to fall.

Sorry brother. I'm at work and a bit too busy to type out my real sentiments. To be continued. I'll consult with my friend Jack Daniels and then grab the keyboard later this week.

But as long as I'm here now, I'll point out that the Rangers have largely avoided the top teams in the Eastern Conference so far. But with 33 games remaining they play the Caps and CBJ 3 times each, and the Pens and Habs twice each. They also play the Isles twice and AV's Dandy's have a tough time with the Isles and the Isles have been playing better under Doug Weight. Also, they play the California teams once each. So there are about one-third of the remaining games against teams that will tell us whether giving AV an extension was such a great idea. I think there will be some regret somewhere in the front office.

Just read this, as per Brooks:

Vigneault, who has been afforded significant input into personnel, has remade the Rangers into a up-tempo, skill-driven team, perhaps at the expense of toughness for which Rangers fans yearn in knowing a historical record that includes Dave Schultz versus Dale Rolfe and Donald Brashear versus Blair Betts.

https://nypost.com/2017/01/31/rangers-know-alain-vigneault-is-the-ri...

So there it is. AV has built this flawed, passive mess which is wasting the superior talent that has been acquired on the top 3 lines. And it is blatantly obvious, so much so that Brooks and others have written about it often, that the Rangers are soft and not built for the playoffs.

So how does Gorton give THIS blueprint a two year extension? Such a move makes Rick DiPietro laugh, because he thought that HE got the stupidest contract offer ever. AV wanted Boyle and Yandle, and now he's stuck with what's left. Why is such shortsighted failure rewarded? He's forced soft players with limited impact (Fast, Puempel) into the top 3 lines despite clear evidence that the team doesn't need those kind of players. He refuses to get grinders and tough players for the 4th line despite the fact that the current 4th line philosophy is not working.

And they gave THIS designer of a flawed team a reward and a two year extension. What a ****ing joke. I hope Gorton gets the boot along with AV when somebody in upper management wakes up and realizes that AV is a chronic failure, who consistently falls short despite superior talent. And the more they point to his regular season wins total, the more fans like me say, "So what". He could win 4,000 regular season games, the dummy will never win the four games that count, in the Finals.
