Yeah I agree but Stepan is just a second line at best forward....AV always has hime take key faceoffs and he loses them

Ok good we all agree that they all had poor effort last night.. Point is this, Miller will be moved down in lines which at times he deserves. Kreider may be moved down which he deserves at times.. Stepan has deserved to be moved down several times and hasn't!!! Still top line minutes while producing nothing!!

You can also make the case that 93 should be a scratch...He's invisible

On merit 93 should be scratched. I scratched him from my lines this AM.

And I agree on Stepan, he never gets demoted. Puzzling. And AV needs to stop using him on those draws, but one small comment in AV's defense is who else does he use. Not a lot of options.

This is all I was trying to say....

Try Lindberg in Stepans place, AV said the 4th line has been the best, so give the kid a shot... If it doesn't work you can switch it during the game

I agree, move Lindberg into the top 9, why not. Once in the top 9 I don't get caught up in 1st, 2nd, 3rd lines. They all play around the same amount of time +/-.

Doubt AV gets fired unless they whimper out in 5 games. Remember the guy signed an extension mid-season. I do think bigger player changes will be made though.

Turning the lineup upside down is so AV, usually breaking up good units when they are flying, instead of his panic mode now. I wouldnt be at all suprised, brighter minds than his saw his warmup lines and sent someone down to the dressing room to ask him what was that warmup lineup bull****. Then slapped him and told him to wake up. . If he does it again send Schonfeld down to the dressing room before the game to throw vigneault out of the dressing on his ass, and put Shoeny in charge. He can do know worse. When you are down two goals trying to generatew offense in the last two minutes and you put Fast on the ice your a bloody idiot. Whether your best offensive players are having a bad game or not they are still 10 times more likely of creating something than Fast.

Stepan does not get demoted because he is a 50 point, defensively responsible center who rarely makes the bonehead pass that leads to a goal. He rarely hits and sucks at face offs, but he also has a high hockey IQ and plays a good positional game. Who is going to replace him? Miller has a higher physical/skill upside than Stepan but Miller is inconsistent and prone to make bad mistakes. Hayes has high IQ and great offensive potential and this year played a better d game, but he is soft and also tries to make impossible passes at times. Zib is lost right now and Lindberg has been playing decent as a 4th line center, but does that translate with higher talent wings?

As far as Lindberg give it a try at least, see if it translates with more talented wingers. If Stepan is a good defensive center, make him a checking line center.

Through three playoff games the high IQ guy has one secondary assist, so does Zib who we all say looks like a no show or even lost out there.

Time to limit his minutes. If the Rangers happen to get a lead use him more for defensive purposes

We are all down from game 3, understandable so, but here is the reality of the situation...win game 4 and we are all even and it becomes a coin flip series (maybe a little edge to Montreal for home ice). That's the situation here.

Now given how the previous 6 Ranger home playoff games have gone (0-6 outscored 21-4) I cannot say I am confident we'll win game 4. I'd even go as far as to say I don't think we'll win game 4, but if they do win it the series is all even and anyone's series to win.

That's how we have to view it. Be hopeful and root, and all the other stuff will have plenty of time to be discussed once we are eliminated.

This is not the time to turn it upside down. These are his guys LED by him. The coach can Quit whining about how they are not showing up, and changing lines on a dime, and motivate these guys. Look at hockey coach job postings, one of the most desired skills of a potential coach is the ability to motivate a group. Not whine and cry because they didn't show up.
How many times did no effort embarrassing losses like this happen during the season? At least 10. This is the same stuff as in Vancouver. Everybody should have seen this train coming down he tracks, because it's just more of the same.
Back to the first sentence, the best thing he could do is put together familiar lines with the correct fourth line players on the he fourth line, and sit a line early if their not going. All it takes sometimes is miss one shift and they get the idea and get going. He waits til the game is usually over before sitting guys. No doubt it's time for the players to step up but it's also the coaches job to step up his pathetic performance.

AV should be fired at the end of this season just based on his usage of Skjei/Smith and Staal/Holden.

Also, why do you SPLIT UP the best defense pairing of Games 1 and 2 for Game 3?

My guess on AV's thinking, and not saying I agree just giving what I think might have been his mindset, is he doesn't want Skjei to be on the 2nd pair right now AND he thought Smith played so well that he was the better option on the 2nd pair RD with Staal over Klein.

My opinion is I would have played Klein with Staal as the 3rd pair and gone from there. Staal and Klein have played together for a few seasons prior to this season, and that is what I would have done. My biggest take away is he doesn't want Skjei on the 2nd pair right now and would rather have Staal there.

Looks like game 4 will be the same D pairs as games 1 & 2. I like putting Skjei and Smith back together, but I still would lean towards Klein over Holden with Staal.

What coaching experience does Mess have? A great player does not a great coach or executive make, we have seen this time & time again in all of sports.

Absolutely true, but we have also seen great players make great coaches and executives..

My guess is that Mess would demand attention to detail, and would absolutely hold his players feet to the fire! He knows exactly what it takes to win and would make sure all of his players understood that as well....

Messier I don't think will get hired. You have to hire a proven coaching commodity in New York. See Bryan Trottier. If he didnt get hired with Sather the one hiring instead of Vigneault then I just don't see it. Its a different game from when he played and there is little evidence he hes been keeping up. Watching a few games every year is not the way to stay on top of the game. Coaching isn't a hobby its your life 24/7 365 days a year. The good ones are constantly reinventing the wheel, I said good ones, little evidence of double mint adapting. Right now Sutter who has coached two cup winners and 2 different teams to the cup finals and in fact Calgary actually beat Tampa but for a disallowed legal goal in game 6 to make for 3 cup winners has a more realistic and more importantly proven background. I can't believe the Rangers would let AV come back next year after the playoffs so far. Rangers probably have to at least win this series to justify Vigneault coming back..

There's no hard evidence to support this either way. Great players have made good and bad coaches. You'll only know when they get a shot.

Besides, at this point I'd rather see JOBY Messier behind the bench instead of Chewie the Gum.
