Hearing Gophers free-agent Vinni Lettieri (19 goals, 37 points) currently choosing between #nyrangers & #blackhawks. Both after him heavily
4:19 PM - 26 Mar 2017

With Minnesota's season over after a loss to Notre Dame, the vultures are circling. Rangers interested in 21 year old forward Vinni Lettieri from Minnesota.

Got to see this kid play quite a bit over the last couple of years, as I watched as much Minnesota as I could (Skjei.) Was never impressed with him, smallish by NHL standards, good skater, decent hands, but nothing special.

He had a breakout year this past year, scoring 19 goals after scoring 2, 9, 7 goals in his previous three years. This is not uncommon in the college ranks, as underclassmen get less ice time than upperclassmen. He did improve his point total year over year.

I don't expect an NHL player here but would be thrilled if I was wrong.

Rangers about to sign him. 2 year ELC. Will play in Hartford's final 8 games. Hearing Stepan and Skjei helped reel him in.

Again not expecting a breakout NHL player here but good youth move for Hartford, and at best he may end up a bottom 6 NHL forward.

5'10 187" which means as an NHL'er he'll be listed at 6'0 195.

Good skater, good offensive instincts for a college player. From what I read he's good defensively also, so maybe he can do some PK down the road. Isn't an energy guy, isn't a physical player. He's 22 which means he's already fairly mature for a forward, there's probably not a ton of upside for him to develop offensively, but if he can adjust to the AHL level (likely) and grow at the NHL level (we'll see) he could contribute maybe 20 points at the high end. Of course if he keeps growing and adjusting, sky's the limit, but chances of that happening are slim.

Assume we're signing a 22 year old good AHL player with a little upside, and you won't be disappointed. Unless you're PV, because he's not a PV type of bottom six player.

Lou Nanne's grandson, same as Tyler Nanne. Slats buddy Lou. Rangers are cornering the market on Nanne's off spring.
