CLINCHING A BERTH
The Rangers clinched a berth in the 2017 NHL Playoffs by earning a point on Mar. 28 at San Jose. The Blueshirts have earned a playoff berth in seven consecutive seasons (since 2010-11) and in 11 of 12 seasons since 2005-06. The Rangers are one of three NHL teams that have made the playoffs in every season since 2010-11 (along with Chicago and Pittsburgh). The Rangers are one of four NHL teams that have made the playoffs 11 times in 12 seasons since 2005-06, along with Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San Jose.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Blueshirts are the only NHL team that has not been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs prior to the start of a regular season game at any point over the last 12 seasons (since 2005-06; 945 regular season games played over the span).

FINAL COUNTDOWN
The Rangers have five regular season games remaining in the 2016-17 season. The Blueshirts' final five regular season games this season include three home games and two road games, and four of the five games (including all three home games) are against Metropolitan Division opponents.

BOUNCE BACK
Since Dec. 22, 2015, the Rangers have posted a 38-10-3 record in the game following a loss (regulation or overtime/shootout). New York has posted a 21-6-3 record in games following a loss in 2016-17.

WINNING WAYS
The Rangers' 46 wins in 2016-17 are tied for the eighth-most in one season in franchise history (New York also earned 46 wins last season). The Blueshirts are tied for fourth in the NHL in wins this season. In addition, the Rangers are tied for third in the NHL - and are tied for first in the Eastern Conference - in wins since the start of the 2013-14 season (190). The Rangers' 190 wins since 2013-14 are the most in any four-season span in franchise history.

GOALS GALORE
The Blueshirts have tallied three or more goals in each of the last three games and in eight of the last 11 games. Four Rangers have tallied at least 20 goals this season.

AV SQUAD
Alain Vigneault enters the contest with 612 career wins as an NHL head coach, and he is one win away from tying Jacques Martin for 14th place on the league's all-time wins list among head coaches. Vigneault is one of three head coaches in Rangers history who have guided the team to the playoffs in at least four consecutive seasons (along with Lester Patrick and Emile Francis).

KING HENRIK
Henrik Lundqvist earned his 30th win of the 2016-17 season and his 404th career NHL win on Mar. 7 at Florida. He is the first goaltender in NHL history who has earned at least 30 wins in 11 of his first 12 seasons, and he is only the third goaltender in NHL history who has registered 30 or more wins in at least 11 different seasons (Brodeur - 14; Roy - 13). By earning his 404th career NHL win, Lundqvist passed Brodeur for the most wins by a goaltender in his first 12 seasons in NHL history. He is three wins away from tying Glenn Hall for ninth place on the NHL's all-time wins list. Over his 12-season NHL career (738 appearances), Lundqvist has never appeared in a game in which the Rangers were eliminated from playoff contention prior to the start of the contest.

SKJEI HEY KID
Brady Skjei established single-game career-highs with three assists and three points on Mar. 28 at San Jose, and he became the first Rangers rookie defenseman to tally three assists/points in a game since Kim Johnsson on Mar. 19, 2000. Skjei's 38 points this season are the most by a Rangers rookie defenseman since Brian Leetch in 1988-89. He is one of three NHL defensemen who have recorded at least 30 even strength points in their rookie season over the last 23 seasons (since 1993-94), along with John Carlson and Tyler Myers. He is also one of four Rangers defensemen who have recorded at least 30 assists in his rookie season in franchise history (along with Leetch, Ruotsalainen, and Greschner).

RICK ROLLING
Rick Nash is one of two NHL players who have registered at least 20 goals in 12 different seasons since 2003-04 (Alex Ovechkin). He has recorded a goal/point in four of the last five games, and he is tied for the team lead in games with a goal this season (22).

MIKA MAGIC
Mika Zibanejad has tallied five points (one goal, four assists) over the last four games, and he has posted a multi-point game in two of the last three contests. He has recorded nine points (four goals, five assists) in the last 12 games.

STEP-AN UP
Derek Stepan has recorded at least 50 points in four consecutive seasons (2013-14 - 2016-17) and in five seasons in his career (2011-12; 2013-14 - 2016-17). Over the last 25 seasons (since 1991-92), the only Rangers who have posted more 50-point seasons than Stepan are Brian Leetch (eight), Mark Messier (seven), and Adam Graves (six). Stepan enters the contest with a four-game point streak (three goals, one assist), including a three-game goal streak, and he has recorded eight points (four goals, four assists) over the last 10 games.

WELCOME MATS
Mats Zuccarello leads the Rangers in assists (41), points (56), and even strength assists (33) this season, and he is the first Ranger who has registered at least 33 even strength assists in one season since Michael Nylander in 2006-07. In addition, Zuccarello's 41 assists this season are a career-high. He enters the contest with a four-game point streak (one goal, four assists) and a three-game assist streak, and he has registered a point in eight of the last nine games (three goals, seven assists).

CAPTAIN MAC
Ryan McDonagh is one of five NHL defensemen who have recorded at least 40 points and a plus-19 rating in 2016-17. He leads Rangers defensemen in assists (35) and points (40) in 2016-17, and he has posted two 40-point seasons in his career (2013-14, 2016-17).

You'd think this whole losing record at home will be motivation to bring their A game tonight. Especially when paired with playing a potential playoff opponent and rival.

Should be a good one!

The John Ferguson era. The jerseys were modeled after the Winnipeg Jets WHA jerseys.

Who can guess the Pen fighting Fotiu? Hint: ex-Islander.

I thought it might be Gerry Hart based on the Islander hint and the curly hair but he was never with the Pens. I can't guess, but I can research and will just say I think of yet another team when I think of this guy. Tragic beginning to his NHL career if it's who I'm thinking of

Yep, Spinner Spencer.

On December 12, 1970, when Spencer was called up to play with the Leafs in what would be his first NHL game on television, he telephoned his father Roy in British Columbia to tell him to watch the game that night on Hockey Night in Canada. Spencer was to be interviewed between periods of the game. However, a game featuring the Vancouver Canucks versus the California Golden Seals was aired instead. Infuriated, Roy Spencer drove 135 kilometres to Prince George, where the closest CBC Television station, CKPG-TV, is located. When he arrived, he ordered station staff, at gunpoint, to broadcast the Maple Leafs game instead. The station complied, but as Roy Spencer left the station, he was confronted by the RCMP. After a brief stand-off Roy Spencer was shot and killed.

After hockey, Spencer submerged himself in a life of drugs and violence. In 1987 he was charged with kidnapping and murder and faced the death penalty. Family and friends, including ex-teammates, gathered around him and tried to help. A former teammate from the Sabres, Rick Martin, tried to help by testifying as a character witness at his trial. The jury returned a not guilty verdict in March 1988 and Spencer vowed to change his life. Despite the acquittal and a move to Florida, Spencer's life continued to spiral out of control. Three months later, Spencer would die under similar circumstances to his father; he was fatally shot in a robbery following a crack cocaine purchase in Riviera Beach, Florida.
