Nash Zibanejad Vesey

Worked pretty well tonight. Buchnevich is likely the odd man out to start the playoffs.

Kreider Stepan Zuccarello
Vesey Zibanejad Nash
Grabner Hayes Miller
Glass Lindberg Fast

I'm not sure which of the 6 D who played tonight sits for Smith. Klein? Holden?

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Smith
Skjei Klein

?

Tough calls for AV to make as the final cuts on offense and d

Is Vesey a legit top 6 forward at this point? Maybe Grabs to 4th line and Buch or Vesy with Hayes and Miller? Fast sits to acomodate Buch...Doubt it will happen...

on D
Obviously Staal and Girardi dont belong out there but with their albatross contracts...they will be out there....Our D is horrible ..After Mac the drop off defensively is wylie coyote like...after Skjei I dont like any of em

I think Rob has the lines right, but I expect Smith to be the 7th D-man.

what I'd like vs what I expect are completely different. If Buch doesn't dress than I'll hold the Fire AV banner. Even if he doesn't want Buch in his top 3 lines, Lindberg, Buch and Fast/Glass make a pretty good 4th line. Without someone offensive minded, Lindberg looks pretty ordinary and he's not.

As bad as Girardi and Staal are, Klein has been god-awful and deserves to sit (and I was always one of Klein's biggest defenders).

I agree sure...I think Buch and Glass have to play...Klein is pretty much out of gas I think....This is why Shatt or Alzner will be here July 1...Our D is in a World of trouble and there is nothing in Hartford until Sean Day can hopefully pan out

That's what I said when we got him, and I was called nuts. It's either him, Holden, or Klein.... Klein is a righty

Maybe I put too much in to the chemistry of

Grabner Hayes Miller

But I'd leave them alone. Is Vesey a legit top 6? No. If it were me, I'd have Buchnevich there.... but that line of

Vesey Zibanejad Nash

was together for the last game, and they were the best line on the ice. Vesey got a lot of chances off feeds from Nash. No real reason to split them up.

Kreider Stepan Zuccarello

are our top line. No real disputing that.

So that leaves Buch or Glass playing with Lindberg and Fast. I chose Glass because he has brought needed physicality. Him on that line makes it a legit checking 4th line..... Could probably put that line out against other team's top line. All 3 can kill penalties. Plus, Glass has the experience in the playoffs. He knows what it's all about, and will continue to play every game as if it's his last taste of the NHL.

Is the safer bet over Bichnevich who even though he has the skill, I'm not sure he's use to the NHL yet.... certainly never played NHL playoff hockey.... in Montreal...... As much as I like him, the kid probably sits

I said when the trade for Smith happened it was not a great move at all. The Las Vegas draft ends June 21/17 which gives the Rangers only 10 days to sign Smith before he becomes a UFA. The Rangers can't and won't sign him before the Vegas draft because they would have to either protect him or expose him to Vegas. Unless they can convince Girardi and even Staal to be exposed in the draft, Smith will not be signed. Unless the Rangers blow his doors off with a offer between June 21 and July 1, he will wait it out. He'd be a fool not to wait, teams traditionally over pay for dman, and Smiths physicality is coveted by many teams. As much as Smith is being evaluated by the Rangers he is evaluating his interest in signing with the Rangers. He's getting the luxury of a test ride with the Rangers, at the expense of two draft picks the Rangers need.
He has settled in on the third pair as predicted with little impact or improvement over what was here. And now playoffs are here and he's a possible watcher instead of player in many minds. I don't agree with that. He has to be in the lineup so the Rangers have someone who will try to protect Hank. But who knows what Vigneault will do other than it's never the obvious.
