What do you think? Do we have any optimists (aside from Robstones)?

Unfortunately I don't see the Rangers beating Montreal. As others have pointed out, they've just not been in good form for some time. The offense is inconsistent, and they rank last in the league in terms of giving up medium and great scoring chances. Montreal are by no means a complete team themselves, and I don't see them getting out of the East, but it would take some significant turnaround to get this team past the first round this year IMO.

NYR 22-21 Since January 1...Not good enough...Maybe we can have a John Druce pop up for us...But the D is awful...Like you said Fish the O is inconsistent....They dont play a Tournament style of Hockey....If they get smoked in Rd 1 I would absolutely fire AV

Hard to have any optimism after the past few months.

If Hank is vintage Hank, then we can beat anyone. But the way the defense plays in their own zone....along with the forwards playing so deep in our own zone....will make it "difficult".

Rare that I'm the optimist here, but I do not think Montreal is all that good. They've had problems scoring. If the Rangers can tighten up on defense (I know I'm asking for a lot), we have a good chance. Rangers in 6.

I'd tend to agree. I am maybe a bit more of an optimist but Montreal doesn't blow me away either. It could come down to Henrik vs Carey Price.

Rangers in 5

The Road Warriors will own these clowns. 100% healthy roster.... McDonagh and Kreider will own souls, but bold prediction: Rick Nash will lead this team in points. Not just this series, but straight to the SCF

Rangers will get to roll 4 lines, and I have news for everyone..... Montreal is noted for not scoring goals, but anyone is going to have a pretty hard time convincing me their defense is better than ours. Shea Weber..... ooooo

Price hasn't been at the top of his game, either. As much as anyone wants to bash Lundqvist, who when healthy has been as good as ever..... Price has had his share of struggles, too.

They will have to out score them. I think Price & Hank will get the job done on both ends. So, they will have to outscore them which they can.

In any case, another successful, fun season of hockey. Can they go far, I don't think so, don't have the horses to do it especially defensively. Again, I think in the West this team would do well, but here in the East the other teams are just so tough & good. Let us see... The other team would have to kill each other (i.e. the Pitts series which will be tough).

My expectations are a bit on the realistic side... so I won't be so upset with what I think will happen, and pleasantly surprised if they do win.

At the end of the day, I don't think the Rangers have the chemistry + system + players.. and perhaps coaching LOL......... to beat 2 or 3 teams that didn't make the playoffs, let alone Montreal who's playing on a different level. Hank has to be better than ever.

They make so many mistakes on D, their scoring is down, the crisp passing? .... I hope I'm wrong.

Get ready for 7-10 days of everything is AV's fault... and with a different coach we are real contenders.

I will be cheering the Rangers as always. However they have their handsfull. Montreal might be the most improved team since the trade deadline. Julien is no fool and Montreal is going to be flying Wednesday. I expect the Rangers to lose for two reasons. Number one the Rangers dzone system where forwards are supposed to collapse to the front of the net, to allow both dman to go behind the goaline is going to cost them dearly. Those same forwards are not going to be able to get out to the point and take away Weber and Markov bombs. Even if the Rangers escape with no one getting hurt trying to block those two, to many shots will get through. The second point is those shots that get through, that don't end up in the net, will be Montreals rebounds as they crash the net in droves. Unless The Rangers d has a total turnaround covering the front of the net, they are hooped.
If the Rangers can't take away those point shots and keep the front of their net clear, I'd be surprised to see a 6th game.

Montreal has the better scorer in Pacioretty, the better defensemen in Shea Weber and clearly the better goaltender in Carey Price

This is me being optimistic having Montreal win it in 5 and hopefully the end result will be that SOMEONE in the Rangers organization will realize this team is too soft to win in the playoffs

Montreal in five. Habs have a major advantage in goal, particularly of Raanta is hurt. We know Lundqvist is no match for Price, not even close. The Bell Center has been his House of Horrors throughout his career. He was almost beaten by Tokarski the last time these teams met in the playoff. Defense - what more needs to be said? Mac, Brady and wishing, hoping and praying. The NYR can probably skate with the Habs, but they also need to have the Big Boy pants on because Montreal will be physical. I'm not sure we can match up when things get physical. So,
Game 1: MTL 4 - NYR 1
Game 2: MTL 4 - NYR 0
Game 3: MTL 4 - NYR 3
Game 4: MTL 2 - NYR 3
Game 5: MTL 6 - NYR 2

The Rangers and Habs have an agreement not to watch each other practice

9:31AM 4/11/17

"Really ?? There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with the concept and belief that the home team wont be somehow watching the other practice, just my 2 cents" ...

Alain Vigneault was asked on Monday if he would allow Montreal coach Claude Julien to watch his morning skates during the series and said that he would.

Vigneault said that Habs GM Marc Bergevin has spoken with Rangers GM Jeff Gorton and they agreed that neither team will watch the other team practice.

Vigneault said that when it comes to the morning skates he doesn't "particularly care one way or the other."

In 2014 during the Eastern Conference Final a controversy was started when the Rangers were watching Montreal practice.

When the Rangers played Tampa Bay in the Eastern Conference Final the next season the two teams had an agreement that allowed the other team to watch practice.

I agree....Rangers will not have the open ice they enjoyed against the lesser teams this season. Montreal's defense is very good. And don't forget the grit they added at the deadline...look for them to hit at any opportunity.

This is not the first round from last season, the Habs are not the Cup-winning Pens.

Hank will be Hank and he's in the Habs' head. Nash, Zib, Zuc, Kreider will step up, and Stepan is a consistent playoff performer. If ****head AV keeps Hayes-Miller-Grabner together they will present a big matchup problem for the Habs on defense with their third pair.

The problem for the Rangers will be dealing with the physicality that the Habs bring, especially on the 3rd and 4th line. Expect those two lines to keep the Rangers pinned in their zone for entire shifts. This is gonna be awful in the 2nd period with the long change. Habs will absolutely crash Henrik and the Rangers had better bring their balls on defense to clean the house.

Rangers will win two games in OT and break Montreal's heart in 6 games.

If I'm wrong, then I want AV dragged outta NY like they dragged that guy off the United Airlines plane.

Also, I'm expecting a rebirth of Dan Girardi. There, I said it. He's a proud warhorse and he's been hurt for the better part of three seasons. He appears healthy now and I expect him to rise to the physical challenge that the Habs will bring. He's got too much pride to play poorly in what may be his last playoffs as a Ranger.

Rangers-Canadiens breakdown: This can be over fast
By Larry Brooks April 11, 2017 | 9:02pm

"If the adage is an NHL playoff series does not truly begin until a home team loses a game, you can make book that this opening-round matchup between the Rangers and Canadiens will be over almost before it begins if the Blueshirts fail to win one of the first two that will be played on Wednesday and Friday.
Seriously, is there anyone who believes the Rangers — who have lost five straight playoff games at home by a sum of 18-3 dating back to Game 2 of the 2015 conference finals against Tampa Bay — would be able to win four of the final five against the Canadiens after dropping the first two, and with three of them at MSG?"

and Brooksies breakdown here ;

Will see as it goes. If Fast isn't front and centre on the Pk then Buchnevich may as well be in there. Buchnevich and Lindbergh have a little chemistry and a goal or two in the series could be huge. That being said it's pretty much the lineup most expected.

The Staal-Holden pairing will be an adventure at times. Their coverage in front would make any goalie nauseous.

Fast is gonna get smeared in the first period by Ott or Martinsen. Free Buchnevich!!!

The winner of the Rangers/Habs series will win round 2. I think both of these teams are better than the Bruins or Sens.

I see this series as a long hard fought battle, but whichever team does emerge will win in round 2 (assuming no major injuries). That you can take to the bank. The joys of the Atlantic.
