big game for Hank..... real big ..... Habs wanted to desperately wanted to put one passed him.
They need to keep playing that 5 man unit 200 feet.... it is not wide open flash hockey but it wins.... they got the forwards to put in when the jitters clear... patience and discipline NYRs can win

Why is ****ing AV mixing up the lines?!?

They've had the better of the play and Captain Douchebag has to tinker with the lines because he's such a ****ing genius. The Rangers are gonna win DESPITE this asshole behind the bench.

He gets to keep his Plane seat for tonight lol

Did you make it to Molly's ?

Nah. Jack Doyle's. Big Ranger crowd. Matteau and Colton Orr were there. Got playoff towels and shirts. From a fun perspective, it was great. I really rather watch from home where there's less distractions.

All of the talk was that Price > Lundqvist

Lundqvist has a real hard time at The Bell Center

And he gets the shut out! Broadway hat and everything

Suddenly Tanner Glass is a fan favorite. After years of being the whipping boy, not making the cut out of camp, and playing the entire year in Hartford.... he steps up and scores the game winner in Game 1

Legendary

Rangers played well, full value for the win. But it's only one game, Glass's goal was borderline fluke. Take that away and it's overtime and anyone's ball game. The Rangers were the team to catch the break. It is so very important they have a maximum effort in game two to try to put a chokehold on this series. If they lose game two it's back to square one heading home, and a Montreal team fired up over the Rangers home record. Need a huge effort in game two.

A little morning optimism after a huge win in Game 1

We have to remember here that this is one of, if not THE first time this team has played with this full lineup.

Talk was that The Rangers "limped" in to the playoffs. Our record wasn't very good down the stretch. But the lines and D pairings were all messed up. Miller was playing up and down the lineup. Pirri, Puempel, Clenndening, Kampfer, Beck.... they were all in the lineup for the past month or so, but especially after they officially clinched.

So, even though Kreider Stepan Zuccarello played together most of the year, it's been a few games for them. Same can be said about every line and D pairing. Point is, this should be the lineup from here out. They should in theory gain chemistry and cohesion from here out.

And it's still unbelievable that they are all 100% ish health wise. If a forward gets injured, Buchnevich is the first replacement. If a D gets hurt, Kevin Klein steps in with fresh legs.

Call me an optimist, but this team is ready for a long run.

Those stats maybe a little misleading, he gave up the first 4 goals in the 7-4 loss in Game 5 of the last series in Montreal, but because the Rangers scored 4, Talbot ended up taking the loss

Well then, call me a pessimist. It's not like we blew them out of game 1. Though I think we were the better team, we did have lapses. A couple of bounces the other way and we could be writing a different story. If we lose game 2, we go home where we suck.

I stand corrected on everything I've said in previous threads on the series prediction.
I am not a believer that teams can "turn the switch to on" simply because its the playoffs, and after watching the last 2 months of Rangers hockey I would have bet my autographed Messier puck and jersey that the Rangers would come out in game one and lay an egg (no pun intended to the Easter bunny)
But WOW! I was impressed with the effort, especially parts of the second period...

Finally saw the game, after traveling yesterday ... and boy the road warriors strike again...

Who would've thought .. Girardi had this game in him? That one shift where he nailed Pacioretty three times... and Pacioretty skated off hurt... who knows what damage that did to his shoulder.

The 4th line dynamite....

...and the Bruins, I mean the Canadians, who play like the Bruins, tough but stupid and undisciplined. Thanks to bonehead one trick pony Julien.

If the D and 4th line and Hank play this way every game... we should be good.

Rangers need to shoot more... Holden needs to play less.

My thoughts 18 or so hours later...

Girardi - I said to my son, he wasn't especially noticeable so he must be playing very well. And the one noticeable thing (knocking around Pacioretty) was a good thing.

Holden - BRUTAL!!! Before the series I said Klein should sit based on last few games of the season, but Holden's game last night was so bad, Klein deserves the shot. Someone said "I want the good Holden back". Not sure he's still around and paired with Staal, who was the only other d-man to stand out for his poor play, is downright scary every shift. So what does AV do? Send them out when the Habs pull their goalie. wow - just wow. That said, I don't see AV changing his D, especially after a shutout.

Glass - Really? Who ever expected that quick backhand? Certainly not Carey Price. Tanner's a lock for the rest of this series, no matter what blunders he may have. Remember this is the coach that played Pumper 10 or so straight games after his 'off-the azz, off-the skate, improbable hat trick'. I did like Glass' game but not sure he can sustain it over the course of the whole series.

Lindberg - perhaps his best game of the season and next to Hank, perhaps best Ranger on the ice last night. Hope he sticks around for awhile with the Rangers but who knows

Zucc - Certainly looked like Julien-date's message to his team was hit Zucc hard and often. What he oesn't realize is that despite his size (or lack of) Zucc is one of the toughest SOBs on the team.

McD/Skjei - can we just finally admit once and for all that Skjei is better on the PP point than McD? Might be time to switch units and see what happens.

Grabner - a little weak on the boards on a few occasions but here's hoping the empty netter will be the sign of puck-luck changes, because biy - does he get lots of grade A chances

Fast - did not get smushed. Wait another game, Buch.

Holden was playing just his 8th playoff game, and first since 2014, so suspect he was as nervous as a rookie. He did have a brutal night, but will be interesting to see if he can rebound. Though Smith and Skjei looked really strong last night, and looked the best pairing by a long way. Girardi and McDonagh had some struggles there at times, though as you mentioned I did like seeing a bit more backbone from Girardi than we're accustomed to seeing.

Forward-wise, the 4th line had so many great shifts, Lindberg and Fast really play well together, and Glass was a welcome addition last night. They could easily have had another goal with a little more luck, and they were also out there when Skjei hit the post.

Thought the Hayes line had a so-so night, Miller was the best on the line, but I always wish that he would skate a little harder when he doesn't have the puck, he seems to be one of the slowest off the ice.

Zuccarello for my money was the best forward, moments from the others, but not enough.

Another thing I'll add is it that Montreal looked disjointed offensively. They passed pretty poorly and had poor finishing for large parts of the game. A lot of their opportunities seem to be more pressure related, and they didn't seem to be able to move the puck well. Shea Weber doesn't look as scary as he's made out to be either, and the most threatening guys on their team seemed to be Byron and Shaw

Need the third line to be much, much better. That unit can be a difference in any series.....but was practically invisible last night (Grabs goal not withstanding). If that line gets going, it would make us a bit more dangerous to any team

Mack and Giradi play against Montreals 1st line all game, so I think they will look shaky at times, as talent breaks through every now and then.

What the Rangers did very well was disrupt Montreals break out pass up the right boards which the d-men would check they Canadian on the blue line just as the puck is passed to him.

I think Montreals biggest weakness is over aggressive play... They want to get the Rangers caught up in all these mix-ups and BS... the Rangers never fall for that. The Rangers could've very easily been up 2-3 goals by the middle of the second ... if Boston, I mean Montreal continues these tendencies the Rangers will eventually capitalize more frequently.
