Gutty game after 40 minutes. Props to Hank for another gem. Kreider, Zabenijad and Buchnevich early season chemistry, making a appearance in ot to salt it away.

Why not dominate every game like they did ot? Maddening because they show u they can do it

Montreal played like demons for the first two, they threw themselves into it... and then ran out of gas... Montreal simply sat back for the final 20 and in OT, they were spent. Give the Rangers credit for lasting and keeping it close... Montreal threw the kitchen sink at the Rangers and we dodged it.

Buch never should have been out.
Fast has been awesome. Fourth line guy with 2 goals, why does AV get credit for that?
Skjei and Smith were broken up game 2.

Has Stepan out there for face-offs when he can take him off and Stepan loses just about every one.
Holden?

I would say the Rangers are winning DESPITE AV

Agree! Always liked Girardi more since watching HBO winter classic special. I thinked he tried to do more than what he's capable of the last few years. This year he's playing his role and playing it exactly how his contract dictates. Let's just hope he keeps up this pace.

The guy has left more blood, sweat and skin on the ice over the last 10 years, perhaps more than any other Ranger ever... he leads the league in blocked shots almost every year... 7 out of the ten years he's played 80 games or more, this year 74. in the last five years he's played 80 playoff games (plus 5 this year)... I really thought his career was over, and it's sad to see an iron horse fade away... but in the two or so years he's been so beat up, with shortened off-seasons... it's just nice to see him playing at this level again!!!

Girardi has deserved every bit of his criticism in the past. I blame losing to LA in the SCF on Girardi.

But he has been fantastic with McDonagh this series.... lately..... most of the season.

Staal has had better games, on the other hand.... but even he hasn't been as bad as expected this year IMO.

TERRIBLE mistake that lead to the goal though.... mistakes, really. He turned it over, sure, but then got beat on the wrap around, too. Terrible.

Jimmy Vesey has been exceptional

I'm sure you may be right on some bad plays by G in the finals... but the Rangers were the first team in NHL history to play 20 games in the first 3 rounds to make the Stanley Cup. In 25 Playoff games, Nash scored 3 goals, Richards 5.. and our top scorer in 25 was St. Louis with 8 goals... we had something like a record of 20 games decided by one goal... we were horrible on the PP... So I also blame scoring on series not ending sooner... which would've had less wear and tare on the d-men.

Wonder how different the Rangers would play if Julian were the coach

Perhaps they would also run out of gas after 38 minutes and lose in OT?

Good point about the scoring Andy. Girardi did have a tough finals though. He did have 8 giveaways this game which is something to keep an eye on. He was a beast again and hopefully carries on.

G is reminding me of an old pitcher who can't throw the heat anymore and had to figure out how to pitch over the last 2 years. At least this Girardi is making smart positional plus because he simply doesn't have the foot speed for some things anymore. I think he is playing within himself and isn't trying to do too much which is really helping him.

Dugay said give Smith a blank check now. While, I wouldn't go that far he does seem like a wonderful fit for them and I'd love to see him here again next year.

Maloney said Smith's price keeps going up. :-)

They were not beating LA Queens that year, no way no how. And, may be if Haglin could actually finish they still would not beat LA Queens that year. But, they would make it a series. There are a LOT of IFs that series, but you don't win on IFs. Bathgate is right, no team statistically has ever won a Cup with those stats. You can't score, you can't win. Hank had to be super human just to win games.

We blew 2 goal leads in all 3 games out there....and lost all 3 in OT...G1 and G2 we had last minute breakaways with Kreider and Hagelin....came up empty....We were in that series a hell of alot more than the 4-1 result

We weathered the storm and counter punched...Habs threw everything and the sink at us 1st 2 periods...They got tired and we took advantage...LGR! The counter punchers...I think Nash is all fired up now.

Maybe not. Perhaps losing that game was the best thing that could have happened. Taught them how not to play in the third period with a one-goal lead. The only way to win in the playoffs is to play with desperation. They didn't play desperate enough in games 2 & 3. These games are won by the more desperate team.

Buch was one of the rangers tonite.

Played with the confidence we haven't seen since early in the season. He was a factor in this game.

Vesey has brought the energy to inspire the rest of the team. He's been all over the ice.

Montreal was running wild with the constant obstruction, late hits, hits while the puck is 10 feet away, stick work, and other nonsense. This is the classic Mr Potato Head Julian playbook. The refs where complicit and ultimately all the extra stuff wore them down. Like many teams, they cannot skate with the Rangers so they resort to the obstruction. Montreal does not have the scoring talent to match the Rangers. The Rangers toughed out the cheap crap and the tide changed in the 3rd when Montreal was gassed.

While Girardi has played well, he also had 8 turnovers - way too many.

Hopefully, the Ranger continue this path and get this series over tomorrow night.

And how about some AV credit. Puts Buch in. Fast has been great (who most of you hate). Skjei and Smith has been a great pair. Glass in game 1. Love the lines he put together for game 4 (I said it at the time). I don't see anyone giving him credit for a good series so far. Need to finish it off, but through 5 games he has done an excellent job I think.

Holden. No credit. AV sucks.

Elbow to McDonagh's head? No problem, it's the playoffs.... and you know what? I'm ok with it.

Because Girardi boarded a guy, and it's fine because the series is tied, and this is The Stanley Cup Playoffs. Awesome. Guys are bleeding like they're supposed to.

I guess you have to call the Zuccarello hook to the eye, but after that why are we calling a bs hook just because the stick is touching Pacioretty, or a holding the stick call, or the goalie interference on Nash

Either let them play, or call it tight. Pick one. But don't miss the too many men on the ice resulting in a goal, or the 2 feet outside the zone offsides PLEASE

Said before Game 1, he looks healthy for the first time in years, and I expected him to be much more like his old self than the guy we saw the past two postseasons. He was hobbled and slow since the Finals against LA, but the long layoff because of his ankle getting hit by a puck this season seems to have gotten him close to 100%. He looks strong and he's playing a simple, effective game.

It's not really about Julien. Habs ran out of gas late in games when the Rangers beat them in the conference finals in 2014. Julien's Bruins could play the heavy game and not get tired.

I can't blame Julien, he is doing what he has to do as a coach. He knows they can't match Rangers player for player, skill for skill. This is the only way, chance for them.

They ran out of gas because they can't keep up with the Rangers (i.e. speed, scorers, etc...). I don't know who is going to win, stranger things have happened, but Rangers are a more skilled, faster, quick to respond team. They can't keep up only for so long, reminds me of those late 90s Rangers teams with Gretz that made a run. The Philly Cheesestakes were younger, faster, better, & Rangers just couldn't keep up game after game anymore.

But how do you miss 6 guys on the ice while the Habs score?

I also like when they let the guys play and don't call the ticky-tack penalties on hits. But slashes and spears and punches away from the puck should be called.

But how do you miss 6 guys on the ice while the Habs score?

I also like when they let the guys play and don't call the ticky-tack penalties on hits. But slashes and spears and punches away from the puck should be called.

With the Rangers powerplay fizzling its almost better the Rangers dont get PP's and give Montreal momentum off their easy kills. Starting to think Skjei should be on first over McD. Skjei skates with the puck instead of McD's walk up the ice and Skjei does a lot more moving around on the blueline.

The PP looks good once in a while. I think it's getting better, honestly. They just need steady units, which they haven't had much all year.

Credit Montreal's PK too.
