Alain Vigneault signed a contract extension in January that will keep him as Rangers coach through the 2019-20 season.

Vigneault had the final year of his initial five-year contract with the Rangers ripped up and he will be paid $4 million for 2017-18, 2018-19 and in $4.25 million in 2019-20.

In a similar poll asked last year, 56% of readers said that they did not want the Rangers to get rid of Vigneault as coach.

Vigneault has been coach of the Rangers for four season and has a regular season record of 192-108-28 and a playoff record of 31-30 in the playoffs.

Adam Rotter: Vigneault isn't going anywhere. The Rangers did get rid of John Tortorella in the same year he received a contract extension, and lost in the second round, but I don't see them making a change. I like Vigneault as a coach though there are definitely some questionable decisions, especially with the lineup, that seem to be made.

As much as I want to see Pavel Buchnevich, I can't kill him for the Tanner Glass decision. Some defensive decisions and deployments, yes, but for the most part Glass was an effective player in the playoffs. Vigneault has helped develop Chris Kreider, JT Miller and Kevin Hayes, as well as Brady Skjei and there is no reason to think that he won't also help Buchnevich be as good as he can be. Coaches do eventually have a shelf life but I don't think Vigneault's time is up. If the Rangers were to make a chance, what option out there would be better?

I was pretty indifferent before, but I am now in the #FireAV camp. While there have been some positives, he is absolutely blind and clueless about deployments and matchups. In a series vs Ottawa that we should have won, these deployments made all the difference.

I've said repeatedly that the job of a coach is to maximize the roster he's given, and ultimately he's failed at that. He continually makes poor decisions despite the fact that there are better options literally staring him in the face. He should not continue as coach unless we want an underperforming roster year over year.

Has helped develop Miller, Kreider, and Hayes. So he's helped develop 3 maddeningly inconsistent forwards. That's some resume.

As much as I want to see Pavel Buchnevich, I can't kill him for the Tanner Glass decision. Some defensive decisions and deployments, yes, but for the most part Glass was an effective player in the playoffs.

I can kinda kill him for the decision. Here's why:

Glass scored goal off the face-off in game 1 vs Montreal (win) - it bought him 2 more games in AVs mind (both losses). He was replaced by Buch for remaining games vs Habs resulting in 3 wins to end the series in 6. Buch played extremely well in remaining games vs Montreal. Lost in this was how having Buch on an offensive line allowed a 4th line of Lindberg, Grabner, Fast with lots more versatility.

Buch starts series against Ottawa, plays well in 15+ minutes TOI but Rangers go down to defeat 2-1 on late goal. Here's where it all goes incredibly wrong - game 2 vs Ottawa. Buch playing well and is +1 in just under 5 minutes TOI halfway through the game and sees the ice just 2 more times on short powerplay shifts for the rest of the 2OT game. Talk about Brendan Smith getting lost on the bench, AV and his staff lost a few other players on the bench that game (Lindberg played just over 5 minutes total). To shake things up Glass is inserted and Rangers win games 3 and 4 by identical 4-1 scores. He gets an assist in game 3 and 2 more in game 4 (all secondary assists). His game 4 performance was perhaps the best game I've seen him play. You know that buys him that 4th line spot for at least as far as the series goes. But here's the thing - in game 5 glass is rewarded with over 12 minutes of TOI, and despite being on ice for a few early goals, he's the defensive stopper AV has on the ice with the Ottawa goalie pulled late. As good as game 4 was for Glass, game 5 was that bad. Game 6 - no Buch as the accidental assists had bought Glass this start despite his performance in game 5. Series over.

A few points to re-iterate:
1. Glass's good games (or playing in a winning game) buy him at least 2 more games each time
2. Buch's good game doesn't even buy him more time within the same game, even one that goes into 2OTs
3. If Buch were on ice for 2 goals in the same game, do you think he'd even see the ice again, never mind during a high pressure goalie pulled situation in the Stanley Cup playoffs?

Last things on AV regarding the "Tanner Glass Decision" and why I can kill him for it (mind you, killing AV for it, not Glass himself)
- AV mentioned after the game 5 debacle how it seemed like some of the Ranger players on the ice didn't seem to know the goalie was being pulled. Did he himself know it and if so, why did he send out the players he did, especially including Glass? When might have been the last time Glass was sent out in a 6 on 5 when the opposition is balls-to-the-wall trying to score? Probably in juniors, I'd guess.

Okay - that was post season rant #2.

I have no problem injecting Glass into those games to try to get a spark. Arguably, it worked in other games.

He has no business being on the ice late with a one goal lead or tied in OT. To that end neither do Staal or Holden. You don't put this trio out on a regular PK why are they out in Game 5 late? It's something AV had 100% control over and he made the wrong decision. This wasn't an isolated incident either, this has been happening all season. This is inexcusable.

They are pretty good I live 5 minutes from one border crossing and 20 from another just depends where I'm going as to the one I cross at. I go across quite often, so kinda know some, they've never given me a hard time.

Lol!

Not enough name recognition for such a big market Original Six team. I'll have better chances getting the job in Winnipeg, Miami or Phoenix.

Just to be clear...
... not firing AV after the disastrous second half and PS was the WORST decision the management here has made in the off season. The p*ss poor management of personnel has been a LONG time problem for him. It goes back to his days with the Habs and Nucks. He has NO system whatsoever that makes any sense. He refuses to match up against lines. They had the easiest path to the conference finals EVER, and he blew it!! Nice to have Ruff back there with him, but he's not the answer either. As long as AV is at the helm this team doesn't get another whiff of the Cup

I was unhappy when the Rangers hired him. I saw first hand his same issues in Vancouver, and now have to watch the same replay in New York. His success has been more to do with coaching a couple groups of talented players, than his input. The dope can't stand success and has broken up more good lines than any coach ever. Typical point was Zibanejad, Kreider and Buchnevich were electric during training camp and broken up to start the season. Any coach with a clue knows you ride the hot hand.
His record with players is a little sketchy imo. Miller, Kreider, Hayes, in particular are so inconsistent and often fundamentally lost. But they continue along the play well for a spell and then disappear into a vacuum of inconsistency, for far to long and far to often. His record with high priced imports is just sad. Eric Staal, Boyle, and Yandle were not done when they got here, Staal and Yandle at significant expense. He got nothing from them.
The Rangers best year under him was his first, most likely because of still riding under the influence of Tortorella, than anything Double Mint did. As the years have gone by the inconsistency and weak efforts have multiplied under him. Culminating in a shameful total lack of interest in beating Ottawa.
Also David Desharnais is a Vigneault pick up no doubt after consulting his old pal Michelle Therien. Desharnais immediately had his ice time cut by Claude Julien after replacing Therien, and then benched, then shipped out to Edmonton, who had no interest in keeping him. The logic that Desharnais unwanted in Montreal and Edmonton is going to help a playoff team and outside Stanly Cup contender is just f'nn stupid. Terrible pickup, but when you look at the acquisitions since Double Mint got here it should not be a surprise.
I have more confidence in Ruff than him but this lineup is a team calling for Darryl Sutter, who you play hard and the right way for every night or you don't play. This is a league that the best teams are separated by talent and just as important consistent effort. And effort and smart play more often than not is the difference. Not exactly Vigneault strong suits.

AV has set back the progress of so many young players that it's ridiculous. Miller, Kreider, Etem, to some extent, Vesey and Buchnevich too. He literally ran Yandle and Staal out of town with the way they were used here. And those are just a smidgen. Like I said the problem goes all the way back to the Habs. The minute he plays Staal on first or second pairing he should be dumped. I pray to God that Glass isn't signed to fill a spot, he'll use him over Buch or Vesey. For Chrisakes, let Nieves fill that spot if he's ready. I'll take joe Schmoe from the Pack to fill a spot. JUST NOT Tanner(Hands of )Glass.

I'll "warm up to him" if we win a Cup, and even then I'd be hesitant to give him much credit based on his history here.
