I have a question, how does Kariya make the HofF? He was a nice player, had a few big seasons. But, the HofF is not for nice solid players, it is for great & elite players, &/or award winners. There are others in there you can question, but how does Karyia make it in is a joke.

He was a point-per-game player for almost 1,000 NHL games, most of them in the era of the trap.. How is that not HOF-worthy?

Because people get stuck on the value of winning Cups. Too often do we judge the individual on the accomplishments of a team.

as mentioned in another thread, Bonino will probably get overpaid because he was on The Penguins....

Adversely, Paul Kariya isn't seen as an elite player, why? He's just a nice player because he never won....

Yep...Kypreos said the other day this is bad for the Oil... If they sign these 2 guys to similar contracts then they would account for like 25% of the team cap hit

Yeah I know.... in the end it's a team game but there are plenty of great, legendary players that never won a cup, and conversely, there are garbage players that have. It's a poor measure. There are plenty of borderline HoF'ers... there always will be some debate... I think if anyone looks at Kariya's stats though they speak for themselves.

I mentioned that in the other thread as a solution for the Rangers problems at C right now... they'll never do it, no one else will do it either. However I'd be willing to pay a big price to Chiarelli in a trade, since they are going to have a difficult time affording these guys. Similar to the Kane and Toews contracts, or Parise and Suter... these contracts are anchors and will only get worse over time. At least Chicago has some cups to show for paying their guys.

I think this will likely handcuff the Oilers in the short term, but might alleviate a little as the term continues....still a lot of dollars for a single player...yikes

Yeah, it's the Hall of FAME, not Hall of Champions

Paul Kariya is a name you should probably know as a hockey fan.... he has the fame. Key figure for The Ducks.... I don't know if Perry or Getzlaf have broken any of his records, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still holds some for the franchaise

Plenty of legends never won, Dionne, for example. A point a game gets you into HofF? I don't see it, I know others have gotten in as well, but not in my opinion. To me even Thorton is border line. St Louis is borderline. Karyia?

That's a LOT of $$$ for this McDavid, but he is scary good, scary good.

Selanne, Kariya, Getzlaf, Perry basically hold all the franchise records for forwards for that franchise. Which isn't too surprising considering the whole franchise barely hit drinking age and those guys played there for 10+years each.

Of course it's not as simple as a point a game = HOF but the rate that Kariya scored, in the trap era, surprises people. Like rob said he was never the best player in the league, but when he played he was always near the top.

I think that if you can say that you were one of the best players in your era (career start to career end) then you should get reasonable consideration for HOF. There aren't, and shouldn't be, hard and fast rules. Chris Osgood is a guy who has this perception of being an average goalie on great teams, but if you look at the stats he was actually one of the best of his time, and one of the most consistently good goalies of all time.

HoF is unfortunately just as much a political vote as it is, how worthy you actually are based on your play.

Boyle to the Debbies

It will be easier for us.
He is washed up.
I remember when washed up Debbie's players were ending up on our team.
I am so happy that that exodus has ended.
