Two guys great on their feet, fast, two way players... no hands, grit or size.... perfect Rangers.

Sounds like another responsible player playing in a men's league early. I wanted Martin Necas, they got the other czech Filip Chytil

One of the youngest drafted... hope he pans out... I trust Gordie Clarke!

I don't know about no hands. The video shows me guys with pretty shifty moves.... they're just also used as PKers. I'm glad they aren't choosing potential liabilities defensively....

Ranked 54 by the hockey news. Another ranking had him 16 on the European list, not the inclusive list just the European list.

I hope Gorton has got something up his sleeve...Because all we have to show for today to hit the ice right now is a definite question mark Defenseman.

True that... but they both don't have the goal production on their stats... youRe right, they both seem to have the hands in every other aspect of the game... just not in buring the biscuit.

Supposedly Lindy Ruff has been hired in some capacity by the Rangers. I hope it's coach but am not getting my hopes up.

What's the fascination with him? He has never won anything.....AV's teams have been much more successful than his.

Yeah but have to remember too they're both playing in men's leagues. They'd probably put up point per game numbers if they were being dedended by other teenagers... but they're teenagers playing against 30 year olds probably on 3rd and 4th lines

The guy I wanted at 7th overal, Martin Necas scored 15 pts in 41 games playing on a team with Martin Erat..

Filip Chytil played in the same league and had 8 pts in 38 games

Then, in the WJC both players scored 13 points.... Necas did it in 4 less games, but Chytil scored 2 more goals with 6....

Necas ended up going 12th overall, Chytil goes 21st...

Av has won nothing either. Ruff got Buffalo to the Stanley Cup final and but for a ignore of Brett Hull in the crease on the cup winning goal things might have been different. Vigneault twice. Vigneault has about 50 more wins over Ruff over almost indentical total games coached. Over the 15 years that's 3 or 4 wins a year. When you look at the fact most of Ruffs time in Buffalo was spent coaching teams with low budgets and low payrolls, compared to Vigneault's teams in Vancouver, that had a lot more big ticket players, carrying over to the Rangers. I think Ruff has done as much with less over his career.

Necas played on a very good team that eventually became the Czech champion this year.
He had great support from everybody. He's a very talented player no doubt.

Chytil is a complete opposite in that regard. Youngest player on a terrible team with no supporting cast to speak of.
He was moved around the lineup.

Not saying Chytil is a good choice at #21 though. We'll see in a few years.

Apparently Chytil is expected to be their 2nd line center next year at the age of 18

With his international point totals being similar to Necas, and looking at the video on him.... he looks good to me

All I know is that the current roster has way too many forwards who are dumb, aren't in the right spots defensively, don't play hard consistently and aren't able to run a PP. These two selections seem to be gritty, excellent defensive, high motor guys with good skill. Something this team doesn't have nearly enough at forward. There is a reason Jesper Fast consistently is better in the playoffs than guys like Stepan, Hayes and Nash. He cares and tries hard. While his point totals in the playoffs won't match those players. He does everything else light years better than those players.

Lias Andersson gets the title of "safest pick in the draft" this year... This isn't a MDZ or Sanguinetti pick where there's high upside, but needs to be molded....

This kid is one of the few said to be potentially NHL ready now. There are no flaws to his game, unless you want to call not being an elite level scorer a flaw.... Stepan isn't elite.... the guy they compare him to, Chris Kunitz, isn't elite.....

But that's why this draft is called "weak" remember? The potential elite level talent isn't there. This kid isn't going to be an allstar.

But a top 6 forward that can play in all situations is a good pickup in my book

Right... again this isn't Del Zotto or Sanguinetti. This isn't boom or bust. This is a sure bet NHLer with some upside.

Sanguinetti and Del Zotto had all the tools to be flashy allstars, but needed to work on their game. The ceiling was high, but the floor was low...

Andersson has a high floor. The worst he'll be is a career bottom 6 NHLer who kills penalties and forechecks hard.... the worst he'll be is Jesper Fast.... But there is skill there that could translate into top 6 talent as he matures and gains experience.

He will compete for Oscar Lindbergs' spot this season.....

Chytil is going to be a power house! He's 6'2" 190.... when he packs some muscle on, there will be nothing undersized about him.

Andersson is 5'11" but 200 lbs.... at 18 years old.... Kid is strong, and pushing 6'

I read where Chytil is barely 6 feet, 178lbs.

Whatever. Neither are going to transform this team down the road from a finesse team to a power team.

From that article:

Chytil often creates turnovers with deft stickwork and high-level hockey IQ ...

Despite not possessing tremendous upper-body strength ...

While slightly undersized ...

It’s time for him to hit the weight room.

Chytil’s playmaking abilities could entice a franchise to invest a second- or third-round draft pick. The team could then stash the young European skater away in the AHL for a season or two.

He's small. He's a nifty AV-type of player, which I dislike. This team needs (and has needed for some time) power forwards and physical D-men with size and snarl. Neither of these top 25 picks address that need, either now or in the future.

Grade = D-
