AV will make him less and less effective.

I'm glad they signed him.
I just don't think this coach is able to use all of his potential.

AV will forget he's on the bench --he'll be blinded by the dazzling play of Staal-Holden.

Read a article that no more high priced d will be signed. McD, Staal, Holden, Smith, Skjei, and DeAngelo, start the season, which makes sense. Signing a Shattenkirk and sitting DeAngelo would be ridiculous.

So, as it stands now, Rangers trade '18 second-round pick and a '17 third-round pick for Smith.

Staal and Holden have absolutely no chance of beating Ryan Graves out. Gorton will quickly see that both of these guys suck beyond belief compared to Graves. Holden will be moved very quickly for a pick.

And even better (if true):

From article in Post (not Brooks): "Smith’s signing also likely puts an end to any idea the Rangers would go out and sign coveted free-agent right-handed defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to the long-term deal he will command on the open market."

Ever notice how every contract the Rangers hand out on HF to the Rangers hating community there is awful. All the Rangers players suck. Yet, for example, they love the Gostisbehere deal. A guy as the typical moron Flyers always do, they didn't have to pay big money, for long term yet. Could have easily signed him to a bridge deal. A player who has no clue how to play defense as a defenseman. A so called great offensive defenseman who had the same exact amount of points as Skjei. That place is beyond clueless.

In a side note, I see that McDavid and Draisaitl are asking for a combined 22 million. Welcome to sucking for almost a decade and drafting in the top 3 forever Oilers. You have to pay those guys. Just looking at their cap situation. They are screwed going forward. Basically, they are going to have to give away RNH for nothing. I would be surprised if they could get anymore than a 3rd round pick for him with that contract. They probably will have to offer a 2nd and retain half of Pouliot's salary just get rid of him.

Please keep your HF disagreements on HF. No one here cares.

Sounds like the same problem the Penguins had a couple of years ago with signing Crosby and Malkin. How did that work out for them?

Eddie. You don't speak for everybody here so stick your first comment up your ass. Penguins didn't win crap for 6 years. They actually only won the past 2 years because they stepped in crap with 3-4 draft picks that cost nothing and are guys that could play. So if you want to bend over for the Pens who the league fixed the Crosby lottery for because they were financially broke, go to the Pens board and jump on the bandwagon like the rest of their loser fans who never supported that team when they stunk.

Actually, you are wrong. We had a secret election, and Eddie won by a landslide to be able to speak about you.

And as far as we are all concerned, he was absolutely correct.

The only vote against him came from your buddy Matt Fraser, who is still taking $2 million per year out of your ass.

Have a nice day.

I know. I was voting for Nieves in the prospect pool just because it annoyed him that anyone would vote for him. I really only watch NHL hockey so I know nothing about prospects other than what I read. I heard that Day guy may jump in front of Graves on the list though.

If it there is one thing about the posters here. It's that they are almost never spot on. If you listened to this board for the past 15 years, we wouldn't have developed one prospect because everybody on our farm sucked. I still go back to the days when this board was blowing Renney and Torts as if they actually knew what they were doing here.

We'd have a least one cup if Renney didn't ruin Colby Genoway, Dwight Helminen, and Ivan Baranka. It's a shame AV ruined Hugh McIlrath, and is about to ruin Ryan Graves. Two potential Norris trophy winners.

AV will make him less and less effective.

I'm glad they signed him.
I just don't think this coach is able to use all of his potential.

My thoughts exactly. Why pay a guy $4+m per year to be a third pair who sits late in games when protecting a lead? Because AV "loses track" of him and thinks Holden-Staal would be a better option.

The shine is going to wear off of this guy real quick IMO. A career 5-6 player at best getting high 3 low 2 money who generally hasn't had the confidence of his coaches. I know people are tripping over themselves to see Girardi gone and Staal in a lesser role but I think in less than 2 years this guy will be a goat. Maybe we get lucky and he develops a game at 28 that warrants that kind of money but it seems pretty hard to believe.

In the NHL today 4.35 mill is not high 3/low 2 dman money. It is 3/4 money. And he is our 4. Zero issue with resigning Smith. I would have preferred 200 K less, but not going to flip over 4.35 instead of 4.15.

He has the 63rd cap hit in the league among defensemen next season. That is the definition of high 3/ low 2.
