Chad Johnson and Cam Talbot don't see the success they see now without going through Allaire. I think management was tired of hearing about goalie controversies, tho.... No disputing this year. Should be a none storyline.

Legend Posts: 14925 ![]() Location: USA | Pavelec is fine. He can start if need be. He was overpaid in Winnipeg because they didn't have anyone else, and he underperformed because he's playing behind Winnipeg for god's sake. Then he has to deal with all the criticism of a large contract and a crappy team in front of him. I'm not expecting Allaire to turn him into another Talbot/Raanta, more along the lines of a Martin Biron, a veteran guy who can hold down the fort when we need to but isn't going to turn a season around. Fun stat - Pavelec is in the top 50 NHL all-time save percentage leaders. (He's 28th among active players) Based on that alone he is in the exact position he should be - one of the worst starters in the league, or one of the better backups.

I had this conversation a couple of years ago with someone at work just to prove how ridiculous goalie stats have gotten inflated with the equipment. Two years ago (3 years ago?)he was dead last (at the time) among starting goalies in save percentage, yet he was 40th all time. Personally I wouldn't have touched him. Rookie Posts: 207 ![]() | I have to think Bennie had a lot of say in whom they signed as the backup. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. They could have had Niemi for less, and went with Pavelec instead. I have to think there is some thought behind that decision.

That's what happens though when you compare across eras. When the Rangers won the cup last, a GAA in the low 3's was good. A SvPCT approaching .900 was borderline elite. Anything above .900 was a statistical aberration. Conversely, you can't compare a Gretzky 200+ point season to anything today - because the goaltending is so much better.

Scorer Posts: 608 ![]() | As usual the 50 IQ morons on HF thought this was a terrible move. Agree with one poster above. Look at his save % on one of the worst defensive teams in hockey. It was incredible he put those numbers up. BA will turn him into two more high picks for the Rangers. Sad that Shesterkin was so stupid he signed a 3 year deal in Russia. Tells me he lacks confidence which is not a good sign. He had a real chance to beat Hank out. Not liking the fact he didn't accept the challenge and try to take his job this year.

I know Henrik Lundqvist is e face of the franchaise, and still has game... but I'm going to take his job.. He's going to come over from Russia and be ready. 23 years old.... same age Lundqvist was when he first came here...

Legend Posts: 14925 ![]() Location: USA | Yeah let's write him off because a 20 year old kid didn't want to move to a new country and try to usurp Lundqvist.

Legend Posts: 19787 ![]() | It is very early to write him off. At the same time he is going to have to learn the North American game and possibly the language. I would rather he did those things sooner rather than later.

Scorer Posts: 608 ![]() | I never said I was writing him off you moron. What I said was I didn't like the fact he didn't come over here and challenge Hank. I thought about coming over at 23 like Hank did. However, to me, it was common sense Hank has slipped a little. I would have liked Hank to have this kid breathing down his neck. I think it would have made both better.
