I think they had the talent to win the Cup too.I certainly didn't like the Gartner trade.Unfortunately, unless you have a time machine and can go bacvk and undo those trades to see what would have happened,we will never know. You have to be content with 1994 which I'm fine with.

Now their recent history where I was against the MSL,Yandle, and Staal trades is a different story. There is a good possibility that this team could be much better now,and have a much better prospect pool had they not made those trades. They gave up a few picks for Smith this past year, but they at least signed him for 3 more years so that lessens the loss of the picks.

I hear you about the trades, but the Rangers don't go to the finals without MSL, and IMO the Staal, Yandle trades, albeit a steep price for Yandle, were crippled by double mints misuse. Eric Staal was the best center on the Rangers when he was here. The problem was the idiot coach played him on the third line wing. Loyal to his boys. Yandle trade cost was definetly overpriced and he had to many warts even strength. he was a PP specialist, that basically mopped up in NY. In hindsight a terrible trade.

To be fair they don't go to the finals if MSL's mother doesn't die. They rally around that death and come back from a 3-1 deficit. His mother's death was more important than his play.Yandle was obviously misused by Chewbacca, hell he didn't start playing first line pp until over half his time on the team.Staal was misused too,but I don't know anyone that felt they had any chance that year to do anything in the playoffs.Pretty much everyone felt they were one and done if they made it.This team would be a lot better off now without any of those trades. One other thing,Chewbacca has to go.
