Coaches and organizations make mistakes all the time evaluating talent. Sometimes multiple organizations screw up on a player. We saw this with Stralman. Sometimes the system for a player just isn't a fit. AV is the one who needs to adjust his system because it is isn't working any longer. I think that is why Ruff was brought in. AV's system is way too run and gun. Based way too much on skating and not physical and responsible defenseman play. If he doesn't change, he's Torts part 2.

Ruff's "system" is a lot closer to AV's than you're going to like. Have you seen the Dallas Stars the last few years? You think he won't play the same way when he already has the players that fit the mold? We can hope he'd prefer a couple bigger tougher defenseman in there, and a couple guys up front that can get tough when needed, but I wouldn't count your chickens yet.

They've said that the addition of Ruff will introduce a more aggressive defense.... in the offensive zone..... They're going to pinch more. They're going to be caught deep more often, and the offense will have to cover the points. The team is built on speed, like it or not.

I love a lot about AV as a coach. However, his moronic have to have 6 puck moving defenseman who don't hit or clear the crease crap has to stop. Just look at Pitt. They were almost the complete opposite of that. Graves is a perfect fit as a 5th D guy on this team. I've stood up for Staal for years. He's shot at this point. Holden is fine but I'd rather deal him for picks and keep building the farm.

So why did Clendening sit in the pressbox all last year?

Clendening is not anything close to an NHL defenseman

I think it's safe to say everyone here is older than Chytil....

How many are older than Chytil's dad, I wonder?

Larry Brooks column today "bag of tricks for the PP" it seems he has come to the conclusion that Deangelo will be one of the 6 starting D-Men opening night. He says Deangelo will QB the second PP unit.

Has anyone else heard anything else about this?

I have Chytil's dad beat, but not by much...

1st unit:
Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Shattenkirk Zuccarello

2nd unit:
Nash Miller Desharnais
DeAngelo McDonagh

I guess Desharnais is good on the PP.... and I know Chytil is just a rookie, and will have to earn the time.... But he has Nash on his wing even strength, and has shown all sorts of skill with the puck. I'd like to think Filip works his way on to that second unit over DD

Or maybe DD is better than I realize... we'll see.

Article also says Hayes will be on the top PK unit with Grabner.

Grabner Hayes Miller
Can be seen as our checking line 5v5...
I assumed it would be, but they said they plan to use them against top lines of the other team.

Leads me to believe the other PK units will be

Zibanejad Nash
Miller Fast

The D pairs on PK I'm not sure about...
Staal McDonagh
Skjei Smith?
I guess?

Winnick, McClement and Holland all released from PTOs today. I'd rather have any of the 3 over Carey or Dejardens.

Well he's a depth defensive forward, so looking at points in playoff games where the benches are shortened, are pretty shortsighted.

Assessing the lineup:

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Nash Chytil Zuccarello
Grabner Hayes Miller
Vesey Deshernais Carey/Fast

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Staal DeAngelo

Is there anything someone here would change? Forget about Pionk or Graves or Andersson or whoever else was cut... this is the roster, and these seem to be the lines and defense pairings AV is putting out there.

So, are these the lines you would like to see opening night? Anyone want say Vesey in the top 9 over Grabner? Or dare I say Holden in over Staal or DeAngelo? Desjardins?

Because I think these lines and pairs are perfect on paper.

What's your lineup?

Funny how this board doesn't care if they have forwards on the roster that can't score but when you want a stay at home, physical defenseman, they suck and are useless.

Still skeptical of Buchnevich, are ya?

Vesey Deshernais Fast line will get a regular shift as an energy line. They'll score a fair amount of goals for a 4th lone, too, potentially...

Grabner Hayes Miller will be the checking line.

And then we'll have 2 "top lines"

I still call the

Nash Chytil Zuccarello

line, the 1st line.... those are our first line wingers, anyway imo...

Right, so AV is putting that line together... Hay Grab Miller

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich

showed chemistry last year.... if you want to call that the top line because of Zibanejad, go for it...

Nash Chytil Zuccarello
looked good in camp together... let's see more. Let's put the kid in a great position to succeed.

Vesey and Fast were 2/3 of the 4th line last year, too....

So really AV is just filling in the gaps from last years' most successful lineup.

Chytil for Stepan
Desharnais for Lindberg
DeAngelo for Holden
Shattenkirk for Girardi

Vesey was up with Nash and Step at times, while Buch sat, and Glass was on the 4th line.... sure...

But this lineup should have the most chemistry out of the gate. I like it on paper.

Hayes Grabner Miller

All kill penalties, and AV said that he plans to use them against the other team's top lines.... a spade is a spade.... Checking line will mean they go out there amd do what they do... play in the offensive zone.... keep Crosby in his own end.

What has Buch done? Have chemistry with Kreider and Zibanejad....

This teams forwards for the most part do jack every post season. I don't think Hank has gotten offensive support in about 95% of his playoff games. The fact I have to state that shows you how f'n stupid some of our fans are on this team. For starters, there is only one consistent scoring forward on the team. Zucc. The rest disappear for long stretches and have for years. Kreider being the worst. Stepan was terrible as well. Hayes is also incredible inconsistent. Loved what I saw from Vesey in the pre-season. I have hope he can be fairly consistent on offense. The fact we didn't have one 60 point scorer is pathetic. We should have at least 2 that are 65 point players. We had only 4, 20 goal scorers which is f'n pathetic. Not even one 30 goal forward which is sad. I think there is hope with Andersson, Chytil and Gropp. Finally some guys that can actually shoot the puck and have some offensive hockey sense.

What insanity are you posting now? The only person here that has reached the level of ****ing stupid is you. Stupid and crazy is a great combo by the way. We start with poor playoff performance, then talk about regular season consistency and end with preseason success like that means anything at all. Or is this just your twisted way to say we need Gropp in the lineup now? How many teams do you think had 5 20+ goal scorers? Six of them. And you had 1 team with 6 20+ goal players. Of those 7 teams, 3 didn't make the playoffs. Having 1 20 goal scorer is pathetic. Having 4 is above league average. Do you actually check anything before spewing it? Just easier to say everyone is stupid?

Wait wait wait. I thought our farm system produces all these great forwards every year. You tell us how great our farm system is and how it produces all these NHL forwards every year and how only you know it and the experts are stupid. You seem to have left them out of your post here.
